Q: Post-Period Spotting

I am 27, unmarried, and on the pill for several years to regulate my cycle. I have never missed a pill. My last period went from March 25 to April 1 and I have been spotting since. My mother had female cancer issues and I am worried that I may be next.The spotting is dark dark red, almost brown. Any suggestions?
