Post surgical water retention beginning the 6th week after a 360 deg. lumbar fusion; swelling in abdomen has been from the beginning, but now am noticing my ankles are very fluid-filled. I was cut in front abdomen and fused via long incision in back for L3, L4, and L5 (again on L5/S1). Surgery more complicated than anticipated due to nerves being so tangled plus received 2 pints of blood.

Any possibilities related to this surgery?

Significant edema in both lower extremties is always concerning for cardiac problems, especially congestive heart failure.

You should be evaluated by your physician.
