Ok I am a 25 year old male, When I was around the age of 20 the doctor had said I had an inguinal hernia after a physical. He told me that it wasn't "constricted" so we didn't have to perform surgery right away, but we would have to perform surgery. On feb 23rd 2006 I went into the operating room to have the hernia repaired with a "tension free mesh plug" or somesort, he showed me what they used and it was a coffee filter like fishline mesh material and another mesh sheet. I have went back to this doctor numerous times and he claims "the hernia has been repaired and that I am the only 1 out of 1000's of patients that has came back after surgery complaining of pain" He give me celebrex and this did not even help one bit. I have worked very hard over the past 3 years to even make enough money to pay for this surgery it had costed me about 7000 dollars all together. It took me 3 years to pay off. I went back in about 1 month after for a "check up" he claimed everything was healing fine. I have had problems ever since I have had this surgery, if it is my opinion and a doctor tells you you have this dont get it operated on because they are just out for your money apparently. Every time I go back to him with pain he says "We dont know what is causing your pain" and doesn't help me out in any way shape or form. I am getting to the point where I work all the time, try to get my Computer Engineering degree and I had to put that off for a few years while I paid on this 7000 dollars surgery bill. I can only describe the symptoms as this: Knife like stabbing sharp pains feels like I am getting stabbed by a dagger in the very top of my hip, it hurts to move and I am a cook at a restaurant. So I am on my feet all the time, I dont really ever get to eat there because its so friggen busy, and I am constantly lifting empty kegs out of corners of coolers that messes up my entire function. I am to the point where I no longer enjoy life due to this pain, and it just keeps getting worse and worse. I have gone to about 10 different doctors and they all may be buddy "buddy" if you know what I mean. No tests have been done, one doctor actully recommended me to get an MRI but after having this surgery and blowing 7000 and having the doctors basicly brush me off as not an individual or a human being but a price tag. I am in persisten pain every day of my life, I have testicle pain every day, pivoting sideways hurts extremely, if the pain isnt the sharp stabbing like sensation in the top of my right hip then it feels like my right testicle is pushing forward or feels like it is twisted around backwards or feels like it is tied in a knot. It hurts really bad sometimes I cry and cry due to the pain, I notice that ice doesn;t alleviate the pain. It gets so bad that I am unable to perform my job as a cook making less then 15,000 a year to live. It was bad enough that I had to pay up front a 1600 surgeon bill and 650 anastegiologist bill. All my college money was blown, I am now just getting back into school.

I note that I cannot wear boxers anymore, it hurts too bad to do so, I can only wear 1 pair of pants, any other pants that I used to wear fit too tightly and make it extremely painful to do anything. A good example being that you put your shoes on, when I have these pants on and bend over to put my shoe on my foot and lift my leg to get my foot into my shoe it feels extreme pain right about where your balls are and about where your tendon that runs up the inner side of your right leg right at the top point below your right butt cheek. I sometimes have major difficulty driving because sometimes the pain is so excruciating to sit down It almost feels as if I cannot get comfortable when I sit. Feels like my right butt cheek is out of spot or is putting on my scrotum / right testicle and making it hurt extremly bad.

The doctors have not given me any kind of medicine except naproxem and celebrex. These don't help one bit and I am to the point that I cannot take it anymore. I pay 170 - 180 for all these "new" doctors I see without having any kind of insurance.

I used to be very athletic but now I cannot even do a sit-up. I get the feeling like ive been Kicked in the balls constantly. it gets to the point that I almost wish I would just die because I cannot go through life like this its been over 3 years 3 months since I have had the surgery and i still have persistent pain every day and feels almost like brusing on my groin muscle. The surgery they cut me open I have a scar that runs about 4-5-6 inches that runs from my hip down my groin to my right testicle.

The pain is so extreme I cannot do my job proficently like I used to, I cannot exercise like I used to, I cannot perform daily tasks like I used to. I mean heck doing laundry and dishes and cleaning house is so hard sometimes especially if it is bothering me/ acting up. I know this is a lot to read through but if I dont get a better professional opinion and not just a "well we felt around and had you cough and we didnt feel any hernia"

Almost makes me wonder if there isnt something else that they just lied about saying i had an "inguinal hernia" so they could milk me for 7000 in bills. Note all that was done was a physical and this is what resulted.

I sometimes would have pain in my testicles but I could handle this pain, after having the surgery the pain is about 1000 times worse and it is all over not just in one spot like the "kick in the balls" feeling that it used to just be once in a great while. Now it is everyday, I have to constantly adjust my briefs and pants and belt on a regular basis because it hurts so bad sometimes to just walk a few steps and if my pants are just not in the right spot it feels like im getting stabbed in the balls.

Almost makes me wonder if i just had my balls cut off if i would still have this pain. Basicly my daily functions and activitys and work and whole entire lifestyle have been changed around, no one is offering any real help. The doctor that told me to get the MRI said that it would be about 7-1400 bucks and I am at a point in my lef where I am sick of paying these stupid medical bills, I put my life on hold for 3 dang years to pay this stupid bill and now they want me to go get more tests done and wont prescribe me anything that even helps
This is seriously making me go crazy. I want to go to the doctors office and stab him in the hip with a knife and kick him in the balls to maybe give him a reminder to what he has done to my body and my ability as an individual.

My question is this: Anyone else have problems like this that persistently bother you when you sit down, drive, standing up while pivoting sideways and wearing clothes. I can only wear one pants because they are the only ones that I can feel comfortable 50 percent of the time in. Any of my other pants feel so tight that it starts to make my testicle on the right side hurt extremely bad like someone had hit it.

They say that I am the only one who has ever had post op pain, I dont believe this to be true because I have been suffering for over 3 years now and I personally think they either A> screwed up and are not willing to admit it or B> Did the wrong surgery in the first place

I want a different opinion because obviously the 4-5 doctors around here say "we have no idea"
I feel like I am wasting time, life, and money that I do not have.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Maybe tell your doctor you think you have testicle tortion.....in other words, a 'twisted testicle'. It sounds like this may be a part of it. My buddy had a twisted testicle and his pain was a lot how you describe yours....plain and simply unbearable!!!

So I am wondering if that was what was wrong to begin with and they performed a surgery that they didnt need to do in the first place? Symptoms became a lot worse after surgery. I noticed before 6-12 months that wearing briefs whitey tighty's that the pain/daily activitys were more normal then after having the surgery. Did your friend have an inguinal hernia operation at all? It seems weird to me that before I had the surgery (Even though the Dr. told me I WOULD have to have it operated on) that if it was healing itsself when I was wearing briefs that maybe it was unnecessary for him to operate? I note that I had for a while to walk around with my hand pressing against my groin muscle area about where the incision is to stop or alleviate the pain for a while, about a month or so i had to walk with my hand pressing against my groin area but now it is so much worse like I say, I almost wish I never had went and seen this surgeon that is the husband of the Dr that is my family dr. She refered me to her husband which is in the same office for convenience I figured that it really didn't matter where I went but I wish I would have had another opinion on this one before the surgery because I almost think that now that I have had the surgery and am still constantly in pain and unable to do alot of the stuff that I used to enjoy and am no longer able to do. I know it is a lot of complaining but ive suffered for 3 years 4 months now and I cannot figure out what to do. The money simply just isnt there.
Everytime I ask about it i probly went back to surgeon 5 - 6 times he says "does it hurt when you lay down", well not really, but it hurts when I sit down change clothes take showers sometimes just w/o having breifs on triggers it and i tell you what I absolutly hate it.

I think it is messing me up mentally to be honest because it hurts so much people try to talk and have conversations that the pain is so unbearable that I cannot concentrate on what they are saying or really careing what they say because of the pain.

Did your buddy have to have any kind of operation on this? what tests did he have done to find out because i simply went in for a physical and had mentioned thefact that I coughed hard when I was sick sitting down and it felt as if a piece of paper had torn in my stomache area below my belly button and he claimed i had inguinal hernia.

I almost wish I would have just let it heal the rest of the time because I had noticed great improvement when I was first diagnosed and didnt have surgery because of insufficent funds.

Now that it is all paid for and they got their money they dont care that it has bothered me for over 3 years and it is every single day there is not a day that goes by that some kind of stabbing burning needles pain and or kicked in the balls feeling. I finally posted something on here to find out if anyone else has similar experiences.

but would apreciate response about buddy if you know that test he had if it wasnt a physical, "turn your head and cough" routine, because I almost wonder if you are not supposed to run some kind of tests before hand to absolutly make sure there is a hernia and not something else going on you know?

thanks for the response too.

I can't believe someone else knows what im going through. my story is basically exactly the same except im in ontario canada EH.

I used to ride BMX. I had a dream to go to the x-games and be a big superstar like any kid would but i was 18ish.(now 25) One day i had a crazy pain in my right abdomen. i looked down only to find a fist size bulge from my ab. it hurt like hell. i walked my bike home to show my mom and it was gone. she freaked of course took me to the doc and i was told not to eat before riding my bike, it'll give me bad indigestion... so out i go again not a care in the world. i remember i was at a skate park with a foam pit (a jump with a pool of foam as a landing) and i was doing backflips for the first time. i was so excited when i got the bike all the way around i jumped outta the foam and screamed. The scream made my ab bulge out again and since my adrenaline was through the roof it hurt even more this time. so i layed down right there in the middle of the park on my back. and like magic i watched the bulge suck back in. pain was gone.
Told mom and back to the doc she told him i had a hernia so we did the cough thing...yea i didn't like that at all. and he says indigestion....so we said the HECK WITH YA and got another opinion. All i did was tell this guy what happened and how i got rid of it and he said oh you have a hernia. i showed him my fist and said it was that big and he was blown away and scheduled surgery the next day.

My surgeon was a retired old man that i will never speak to again.

after a day in the general hospital of my small town, i was told i need to walk around...i couldn't even sit up. i expected that though. so with help i was on my feet and slowly hobbled to the door the nurse says stand up straight. i tried not to laugh cuz it hurt but there wasn't any way or how i was gonna stand up straight. Day 3 im allowed to go home still cant stand nor get up on my own....cant put on socks, scared to go to the washroom.

some time passed i had to go to high school and kids as the are gave me hell. countless times people would fake punch me in the gut just to see me tense up and almost drop to my knees in pain. then someone did punch me, accidentally but accident or not it hurt so much.

long story short...yada yada yada...

i've been a self taught mechanic since my hernia. then got a job at a garage where i gave myself a hernia on the other side(2008). no surgery needed and regardless i would just live with it anyway.

My scar feels bumpy and hard underneath with one spot that sticks out pointy like it's the most painful area of my scar.

My car is standard transmission and it feels like i've been jumping on my balls all day. it makes me sick to my stomache.

as far as getting it looked....i've had 3 docs says it's fine. I even went to a hospital that i was told people goto from around the world (in and out 3 days on your own strength walking tall) so i went there he even said it was fine.

I like you give up. no one cares. just pump my body with ibuprofen and call it a day. i took em for a while then noticed it didn't do ANYTHING AT ALL!

So recently i've missed so much work that i got fed up and pretty bored so i looked up ways to strengthen the muscles thinking maybe it would help...well it kinda helped. i couldn't do any sit ups or push ups cuz my back. apparently babying a abdomen can weaken your back. my back would go out on me all the time usually my left lower back (opposite of my hernia, coincidence?). for the past 2 months my back has been the best it has ever been. i started small...very small and only my lower back then i graduated myself to a couple push ups then added 1 whole sit up. it hurt but not as much the next day. and not everyday gotta give muscles a rest.

you being chef you may eat well, myself i never did, i grew up on zoodles and PB and Jam. now i watch what i eat, try to eat the high proteins to help the muscles (im by far no expert on this BTW!)

as far as my scar pain and the nut pain it's still there, some days worse than others. But i think im on the right track, the human body is an amazing thing and we(you, I, doctors...) dont know the half of it.

Never give up my friend, for every problem lies a solution and how we deal with it makes us who we are.

this dang forum is too hard to workw ith
Oddly enough, I have a manual standard transmission in my explorer. Sometimes actully today was a great example, going to mancinos (grinders) to get some food, just driving the mile and a half to get there put me in excruciating pain. I made it home pulled deep into the driveway and basically collapsed inside with so much pain I couldn't even move for about 10 minutes straight.. The pain felt like a stomache cramp from running, except it was down in the right testicle, and groin area, where the surgery had taken place. I had to call a friend and get some 10mg/325mg percocet and I took 3 and I am feeling a ton better. I have had to resort to buying my drugs off the street because the doctors assume I am just trying to get pain medication I believe. I just wish they knew how much it hurt, then maybe they would reconsider their stupid egos.

ANYONE OUT THERE WHO EVER IS DIAGNOSED WITH A INGUINAL HERNIA DONT HAVE IT OPERATED ON<< I actully had the hernia for about a year and a half and I was actully feeling better, where I was able to start lifing weights and exercise, but I had to wear UNDERWEAR to do so. first month after I knew I hurt myself I had to hold my right side and groin area.

You drive a standard transmission too that sort of strikes me as weird because we both drive a manual transmission.

I have had a bad day today usually I am able to grin and bear it but today was a different story.. I just wish I knew what made it worse and better, I thought time would be the key but after today I know that I am going to have to live with this bs for the rest of my life and it really hurts me physically and mentally because alot of stuff I was able to do I am either A> not fast enough at doing so which then gets me less hours at work if not fired due to this pain or B> just cant simply do easy tasks some days, like laundry, dishes, sweeping moping vacuuming.. I mean come on when will it stop. I am just glad I was able to get ahold of those perc's because they help out alot short term. Weird enough I usually am able to just bear the pain but it got so bad today I collapsed on the floor and was basically crying for a good 10 minutes until it settled down.

Oddly enough I had a "buldge" above my right hip bone area, if you feeel your right hip bone go up about another inch or so and that is where my bump was, now that bump has been relocated at a 90 degree and basically sits atop my groin and it is very similar to how you described yours being.

Yeah I figure someday if I am able to get a descent paying job with insurance maybe just maybe I might get some real help.

Until then i have my good days and bad days and horrible days.
I also agree on the compensation because my back has became considerably worse since the surgery specially the lower section left side like you say. middle and my neck is worse also.

Nice hearing a reply from someone who can relate to me, so we are 2 good examples of post op hernia pain.

Did you have an inguinal hernia?
