Hello, I go tomorrow for my six week follow up since I had open inguinal hernia repair (left side). The first few days were like any other surgery im sure, pain, hard to walk, etc. I had it on 6/22/09. On July 4th we went to see fireworks and it involved a good amount of walking to get there. I felt great, no pain at all anywhere. I have not lifted anything since the surgery. I have not worked since the surgery either.

About two weeks ago I began having pain in my testicle area and left side and lower back area. Sometimes it even goes down my left thigh (front). It only occurs after standing awhile and is worse after walking awhile. I have to sit down to relieve it. The longer I walk or stand the worse it gets. Occasionally there is pain in area of the incision. Im curious if anyone else has had this and is it just my muscles adjusting to not being used normally since the surgery or could there be something else causing this. I go to the doc tomorrow and he's supposed to give me my work release, but I'm afraid i wont be able to work well because my job involves standing and moving around most of the day. I'm going to tell him about it again, but would like to know if anyone else has experienced this or something similar.

The doctor said two weeks ago when i saw him that it was normal to experience pain for a while, but its two weeks later and its still there! Hopefully it goes away, but its starting to worry me.

hi, there,

it seems that I have the similar feeling as you. the pain came at about after 3 weeks follow-up. Same as you, longer walking or standing made more uncomfortable at top of right scrotum. check my post below. I just checked with the doctor again today. he said it is NORMAL to have pain...it could last a couple of months. just let me know what your doctor tell you. thanks

The doctor said it will be normal to have pain for a couple more months. He said some days will be better than others. The hernia has not reoccured or anything. So hopefully he's right and eventually this will go away. I have felt alot better the last two days, so time will tell!

I've had my surgery on 6/12/09. I have the same kind of pain too, longer walking or standing or sitting on my chair at work. It is very uncomfortable. I was very concerned about reoccurrence but I guess it is normal. I was about to follow up with my surgeon, but after readings this post. I will give it more time.
I was active before the surgery but I stopped basically everything, and I start putting more pounds on my belly. My question is can I try to start exercising lightly and ignore the pain? Will that make it worse? Or maybe it will help recovering? Since supposedly the wound of the hernia is healed.

Well its nearly November and am glad to say I'm pain free. I do on occasion feel the area where the hernia was repaired. Don't know if it's the mesh i feel, or its just sore from extended activity. My job is very physical and there are days on occasion when I do feel sore in that area, but nothing major, really doesn't even bother me. So far so good and hopefully it stays that way!
