Alright, I have had pretty bad breath for the last couple of months and saw my family doctor fairly recently. He diagnosed me with post nasal drip and prescribed Nasonex.
I have been using Nasonex for about 3 weeks and have noticed little improvement. I keep very good dental hygiene (brush and floss twice a day), use a 'tongue scraper', drink lots of water, and have even started with nasal irrigation... none of which seems to have done anything.
Anyway, to make a long story short, I got curious tonight and got out a flashlight and looked way back into my mouth. What I noticed was a whitish coating on my soft palette with about 3 small pumps (kind of like zits). I could see another 'zit' on one of my tonsils. As I was poking around, I noticed that this area (very back of throat/mouth) is the source of the odor.
I looked a little further, and noticed on the very back of my throat (I believe its called the 'pharynx' if i am not mistaken) had thick whitish mucus on it. (I assume this to be the post nasal drip?)
At the risk of self diagnosing, it seems to me that I might have post nasal drip with tonsiliths? But then what is the white coating and bumps on the soft palette? and what can I do to treat this?
I wouldn't make a big deal out of this kind of thing normally, its just that this kind of thing really hurts a person's quality of life. Its just sort of embarrassing.
*and you can rule out STD/Drug/Steroid use, i don't do any of that stuff.
I truly appreciate any help/advice you might give.
