In 2006, I was 18 at the time and I had a severe case of mono. It wasn't your normal case of mono either. I was in the hospital for a week, could barely breath, airways swelled up allot. It was bad. After my mono didn' have the common weakness and tiredness, it was back to normal everyday life for me.
However it turned out I developed depression from my mono. I started having changes in mood and how i felt etc.. I was seeing my doctor about it and he prescribed me several different things that were ineffective and finally my doctor was unable to help anymore at this so he referred me to a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist determined that I have developed depression as a result of the mono I had. He began prescribing several different anti depressants and they were all ineffective. We had reached a point where we have tried every anti depressant. He said that the depression I had was not your normal"garden variety type" hence it was very hard to treat. Finally on one of my last visits to him he made one last ditch effort and prescribed me two drugs which were off label use in my case and turned out they actually helped.
Is there anybody else out there that has developed depression as a result of mono and it was very difficult to treat? Let me know your experience and how you treated your depression.
Thanks
