Hi
My mom underwent a Mitral valve replacement surgery along with the maze surgery last week. The maze surgery was done to correct the abnormal heart beats that were occuring and to bring down the rate of the heart beats.
However, as per the reports now (after onw week of surgery) , the upper chamber is beating at a rate of around 300 per minute and the lower chamber is beating at the rate of 50-65 per minute at rest. Yesterday a cardioversion was suggested to solve the problem. However, today it was suggested to go for a single chamber pacemaker for the lower chamber. Once the single chamber pacemaker is planted it is suggested to go for some medicines to lower the rate for the upper chamber.
In this case, which option should we go for?
If we go for the above two options, which option of the above two is safest and best. I am quite confused with the reports now as my mom is in icu for the past 7 days and doctors are saying that they'll keep her in icu monitoring her for another 5-6 days and then will plan to plant the pacemaker. Can anyone please help me out.
Thanks

According to her symptoms your mother has probably suffered from atrial fibrillation beside mitral valve disorder.
How log she has been having atrial fibrillation and what other kid of treatments you had used before maze-surgery was performed?
