Hi Guys.

I had my Merina in for about 6 months. By the 2nd month I had begun to gain weight, get headachs, and have facial hair - gross!!! I thought it would pass, but it just got worse. I started to feel irratibale constantly, and even felt depressed - and forget about spontaneous sex (which is why i got it) I never wanted to even have sex!!! And my breasts got HUGE!!!! All in all I gained like 17 pounds in 6 months - not pretty!

So I had it taken out Friday - 10/19/08. On Sunday night I got my period. I was just wondering how long it took other to feel "better." Lose the weight, get my mind back, etc...

Hormonal side effects are common particularly in the first three to six months (headache, breast tenderness, acne, weight change and depression).
Reduced sexual drive and increased facial hair growth are uncommon side effects.
Is expected for these side effects to subside over time (time needed for body to adjust to hormone).
Experiencing migraine or exceptionally severe headache, is a sign for immediate removal of this iud.
All of your side effects should subside completely in a year (some symptoms will disappear in a week or two)

Best wishes!
Marija

Birth Control from hell
I recieved the mirena after having my last child 9-12-07 and I started gaining weight and bloating more than I ever have in my life imediately, about an extra 30lbs on top of allready unwanted baby weight, not to mention hair loss, head aches, facial hair, infections, and severe mood changes. Kept mine in for a year hoping all the bad symptoms would eventually disapear, I have 3 boys so birth control is very important to me, but I had it taken out last May. Most everything is better except for the weight gain. I can't lose it. Previously I never had to watch my weight, but now I still weigh as much or more when I had my baby 18 months ago. I am so miserably bloated and want a change. I have been looking for answers for awhile.
