Hello everyone,

So I had gallstones that cause pain, nasuea, and vomitting pretty frequent... I had it taken out 5-2-11 and still have not seen a change ( very much of one ) in me. Im still frequently nasueated and vomit almost every day. ( Mostly bile ) I still have a bit of pain in my upper right chest... It almost feels like nothing ever was changed... I talked to my surgeon and he told me its never happened and he's clueless.. I talked to my family dr yesterday and wants me to cleanes my system out, check for a stomach ulcer, and make sure I have no stones in my bile ducts.

Just curious if anyone else had these symptons post op and maybe how long all this takes to recover.. Ive lost almost 30 pounds and still currently drink tons of water and eat basiclly little to nothing because the nasuea....

xboxfan,

My surgeon told me that it would be at least a month, if not more, before my body got used to not having a gallbladder to store the bile in. It actually took about three months before I got to where I thought I should be.

I don't know if you are still taking pain medicine, but they can also cause these symptoms.

You should try to eat small frequent meals, rather than large ones. Also, staying hydrated is more important than eating solid foods right now. The electrolyte drinks are usually the best.

Hang in there. But, if your symptoms don't get better, you should probably talk to a Gastroenterologist, rather than your surgoen. Good luck.

x,

No, vomiting is not normal. And, it can lead to a whole lot of problems, because it messes up your electrolyte balance. That's why it is usually suggested to get one of the gatoraid type of drinks. In infants, we use pedialyte, but if you have ever tasted it, most adults can't drink it.

You really have to stay hydrated. Try to get very small amounts to stay down. If you are not peeing at least 3 or 4 times a day, you probably need more fluids. You don't want to end up in the ER having fluids by IV.

Electrolyte imbalance can lead to things like muscle cramps, abdominal cramps, and even irregular heart beats. So, try to keep some fluids down.

Good luck.

I just had my gallbladder removed two days ago...I have had much relief from the nausea and continual pain however, I have had trouble sleeping. They changed my daily blood pressure meds, my heart palpatation meds, and my acid reflux meds due to a low heart rate post operatively. Once I got back on my regular medication schedule, my body had adjusted well. I still experience a little nausea after eating too much in one sitting so I am now eating low fat easily digested foods several times a day. A lot of jello, low fat yogurt, turkey breast sandwiches (1/2 sandwich at a time). Maybe this could help you to but definitely get with your primary care physician if you don't feel comfortable with your surgeon. Hope this helps.

Has the Dr given you any anti nausea medication? I hope so! I started having attacks in February and was experiencing quite a bit of moderate nausea so I started taking Zofran. I had my gallbladder removed on 7/13/11, last week. For a few days I dealt with extreme and constant nausea. I feel like I would have vomited constantly had it not been for the anti nausea medication. It didn't completely relieve the nausea like it used to, but at least kept me from vomiting. I still am dealing with bouts of feeling sick though. Sipping on peppermint and chamomile tea has helped. You may want to try some ginger tea as well. I definitely don't think that vomiting every day is normal though. I would see an gastroenterologist ASAP to try and find they cause. Good luck. I hope you feel better.
