I had basal joint arthroplasty 18 months ago. My thumb hurts and is sore ALWAYS. God forbid I should bump it on something! More alarming, the "cushion" of the thumb has atrophied. The PT was not happy with that (a year ago), but I was soon dismissed from PT (my time was up). This thumb does not work properly, and I believe it will hurt forever. The doctor was angry at my 6-months checkup because I was not happy... So I don't want to go back. Anybody else have atrophy?
