Hi,

My appendix ruptured on New Years Eve/Day and I had my appendix removed on New Years day. Subsequently I had two more operations due to complications and the last of it was on the 10th.

I left hospital on the 16th and its now 13 days since my last operation. I have one appendix scar, two keyhole wounds on my left side which have healed, one below my belly thats still oozing and a gaping hole on my right side.

To make things worse, when I left hospital I discovered I am allergic to the softpore plaster that was used on me. I tried physically sqeezing my two remaining wounds together and sticking them with micropore tape so that they will close and heal but there has been no joy. They are not drying up to allow it to happen.

They are oozing but they are not showing signs that they are infected with redness and hotness etc.

My out-patient appointment is not for another two weeks and frankly I have no idea what to do with these two holes in my stomach!

Advice is much appreciated.

I guess due to post appendectomy complications, your incision/wound wasn't close completely or was reopened.
Acctually, if the infection and inflammation in appendix was so severe (your appendix was ruptured) the surgeon didn't close the incision at the end of the surgery because of concern that the wound is already infected.
The gap of the wound is left for drainage of pus.
Also, an abscess can be formed as a complication after the surgery, and the site must be reopened to allow the wound to drain.
If the drainage increases overtime and changes its color, you should contact your surgeon immediately.
Redness, feeling of temperature, are alarming signs.

Best wishes!
