Hi
Last night I was at work and all of a sudden I started feeling really light headed and nautious. I sat down for a while and them my stomach and abdominal area felt like someone had squeezed and twisted them, and like someone was stabbing my abdomen. It also felt like someone was pressing on my lungs and making it hard to breathe. I couldn't move, and was doubled over.
When I managed to stand up, I started vomitting and threw up 4 times in 5 minutes. I never really throw up from anything, even my nut allergies which affect me sometimes don't make me vomit, so it's not a common thing for me to get sick this way.
After this I drank a little bit of water, and the vomitting stopped. But my stomach and abdomen still had pain and aching, and occasional stabbing pains. I was having hot and cold flushes and a rash came up on my arms and face for a couple of hours. I also felt really out of sorts, a bit dazed and confused, and my stomach seemed swelled up and bloated.
At my work we have level 3 first aid attendants, and they told me I was allowed home as long as someone stayed up with me for an hour at least. And that if the cramps/stabbing pains got worse again, or if I vomitted again, then I needed to call 911 immediately. They suggested it could be meningitis, my appendix, or a digestive or allergy problem.
Now I've had 12 hours sleep, and when I woke up the swelling had mostly gone, it's still tender, and my abdomen still aches. My neck and glands seem sore, and I feel tired and occasionally out of it and confused, even though I slept. I've managed to eat some toast and didn't vomit. I've had people tell me I should go to a GP and get tests authorised just to make sure there's nothing still there.
I guess my main question is... with meningitis, can you get symptoms then have them go away and still be sick? Should I go and get tested for this and other possible things?
