Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum and basically I'm just looking to find out about hypoglycemia because I'm fairly sure I have it judged on the symptoms I've read online.

In the past few months, I've noticed that I have episodes of trembly weakness when I haven't eaten for awhile. "Awhile" used to be 5-6 hours. now it's down to about 2-4 hours.

I get the trembles very badly, will sometimes start to have a lot of the same behaviors as a drunk person-- inability to focus, slurred speech, forgetfulness, and trouble walking a straight line.

Today, I was in a restaurant with my boyfriend waiting on our lunch. I hadn't eaten a proper breakfast, instead just had a Starbucks coffee. I started to feel really dizzy and headache-y and was about ready to strangle the waiter for not bringing the food faster. And then, I just started sobbing at the table. This is not typical behavior for me, mind you.

After I ate, the shakes stopped. I didn't feel well after, my stomach kind of hurt and I was very tired. And I still had the damn headache.

So, this has been happening to me a lot, lately. I feel super low on energy, am walking around with constant headaches (sometimes I even wake up with them) and I just feel like crap most of the time.

I know I should see a doctor, but I'm scared. I read that sometimes the hypoglycemia could be a sign of something worse.

I'm 28 years old, within my healthy weight range, with no other problems I know of. Hypoglycemia runs in my dad's side of the family.

I also should probably mention that 2 years ago I dealt with "stressorexia" as I like to call it, and dropped to an unhealthy weight. I dealt with these issues for about 10 months. I have since regained the weight back to healthy range but I don't think my metabolism has been the same since.

Anybody have anything to offer or share? I'm feeling really upset over this all... covermouth

Don't be upset, you know what the probably is, most likely. If you have a history of it in your family, which I do too, that's a sure sign that what you're expericing is likely some sugar issue. Don't get too concerned about symptoms, though it's possible something could be seriously wrong, chances are you're fine and just need to get your system stable again. The first thing to do is obviously see a doctor, mention your symptoms and problems. Some suggestions, though:

1. Don't mention hypoglycemia initial. If anything, just mention your family has a history of sugar disorders.

2. Don't mention anything about stress. Even if you're experiencing it, some doctors are quick to blame it for everything instead of first testing and then looking at possible stressors. Make sure you're clear it seems attached to how you eat, when and so forth.

3. Again, don't worry too much. When I was really sick (haven't had any symptoms in almost two years or so now), I thought I had every disease under the sun. Cancer, rare liver disorders, MS, you name it. Don't obsess too much. I know from experience the symptoms can be incredible, but you'll likely find out that they're all connected to sugar. Of course, it's possible it could be something, but you're not going to know until you get tested.
