Q: Possibly HIV exposure ?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 25th, 2009
Hi, I was possibly exposed to HIV on January 27, 2009. I was with the Sex Worker and she gave me the blow job. I was wearing the condom which was provided by her. When she was putting the condom on my penis was not hard enough. Long story short after I ejaculate, I found white stuff on groin area which probably mine came out of condom or her saliva. I cleaned the stuff with tissue paper and then I took off the condom with different tissue paper. After that I cleaned my penis and groin area with couple of new tissue papers. This was the whole situation. I dropped her off, came home wash myself and went to bed. After that on Feb. 1, 2009 I had sex with my GF (She is cleaned and never had sex with someone else) and we used condom. That day we tried new position. Well on Feb. 02, 2009 I start feeling pain in my groin area and genital (Penis) and my public area was so itchy. Also I start having burning, pinching and slight pain when I was urinating. I used to had urination problem before but not like this. Well I waited and on Feb 05, 2009, I went to see doctor. She checked my public area and send me for the urine test (for Chlamydia and Gonnorhea). My both test came normal. But my doctor said may be I am having prostitis and he prescribed me course of antibiotics (Cipro XL 500 mg) for 7 days but after 2 days I started diarrhea (I was going to the bathroom alot may be 6 to 10 times in a day). I went to walk in clinic on Feb. 12, 2009 and the doctor said it is because of antibiotic. I finished my antibiotics but still same problem but my diarrhea was gone on Feb. 15. My stool was runny but I was going to the bathroom regularly. On Feb 14. my doctor me prescribed Cipro XL 1000 mg because I was still having pain in my groin and penis. Also pinching and burning feeling in my penis when I was urinating. I also started pain in my neck and under my armpit. I finished 7 day course and went back to see my doctor on Feb 22, and he said take Cipro XL 1000 for 5 more days. It will clear all the prostitis infection. My urination problem was almost gone but When i had sex with my GF on Feb 21, the stuff came from me wasn't thick. It was so thin like water and when I was ejaculating I was having paing in my penis and groing area. Well I finished 5 days of medication and on Feb 26 I started cold like symptoms( Sneezing alot, runny nose, a bit watery eyes and bit headache) which was done in 3 days. But I starte pain in my neck under my jaws specialy on right side, pain in my eyes with headache, Pain under my left armpit and some time right armpit. Also feeling pain when I am swallowing anything, mild sore throat and my tongue start turning white. Also on Feb 26 I went to get my HIV test done, which was after 4 week of exposure and the result came negative. I went to see my doctor on March 06, 2009. He didn't check my armpit but he checked my neck, tongue and throat. He said you got fungal infection because of antibiotics and he gave me (Ratio-Nystatin Drops) to use for 7 days. I am using these drops and I can see improvement on my tongue. But my throat was feeling sore so I went to walkin clinic and doctor took the swab for strap throat. My swab result is fine and my throat is still sore. I am still having sharp pains in my neck under my jaws, in my armpit and I again started a bit pinching feeling and pain in my penis and groin area. I again went to get tested for Chlamydia and Gonnorhea and the results are negative. Now I just wanted to known according to my condition (symptoms) and situation I described with the sex worker. Did I get any STD or HIV from her or my symptoms are related to any STD or HIV. Please help me ( I also went for HIV test after 4 weeks of that incident which was negative). Please help me and reply back to me ASAP... Thanks

According to the data you provided, you might be experiencing genital and/or urinary infection. Whether the prostate was affected can not be told without further test. Chlamydia and Gonorrhea are just some of the many possible bacterial causes for your condition.

Urethral swab and urine culture with antibiogram are needed to determine the exact cause and the most useful antibiotic.

Taking very potent antibiotics for longer period might affect the normal bacterial flora in the intestines and in the mouth resulting in diarrhea and/or oral fungal infection (most often candidiasis). Since you already have your treatment for the fungal infection, you might just have another HIV test three months after exposure.
