First off I am would to state that I am using my boyfriends account, since I was having problem with making my own. But I am a 22 year old female and I have been having problems with my right hand. I worked at a place called Cagels, a chicken factory, I started in Dec. of 08 and i did alot of repetative motion. I started noticing that my hand would swell, but everyone told me it was just from where i was using muscells that i havent used before. I noticed in Feb. 09 that my hand was staying swolen and that it wouldnt go away, and pain was starting around my knuckles, and also i had a bump that wasnt going away on my right hand. I went to my family doctor and he said it was tendonitis. He gave me a steroid shot, that didnt work so he put me on naproxian which didnt work, so he put me on a type of steroids (it came with a certain amount of dosage like a z-pak) that didnt work either, then he put me on meloxicam which ive stopped taking because i had kidney problems. Ive gone into his office several times cause the pain and swelling are moving to my forearm and is getting worse, each time he looked at my hand he kept saying thats just not normal. Ive tried wearing a brace and not using my hand but nothing seems to help. So then he sent me to a hand specialist who said that i have two tendons that are rubbing togeather, im sorry i cant remember the name. Then he went on to ask me questions, when he asked me if i had tingling and numbness and i answered yes if asked me if it was like a glove and i said yes. Then he said that normally when people say that they are faking and gave me some atheritos cream and told me to rap it up in an ace bandage and sent me home. Im wondering if i should see a different hand spealist or deal with it. Im not faking the truth is sometimes it does feel like its on both sides like a glove i understand thats not possible but its what i feel, or maybe because it alternates so much i think i feel it. sometimes the pain keeps me up at night, ive noticed that my hand is weaker, the fact that its spread from my knuckles to my wrist to my forearm worries. ive been paying more attention to the pain now to try and figure out what starts hurting first and i believe it orginates from my wrist. when i was little i did have a hairline fracture but i dont believe its why this is happening. ive never had any problems with my hands ever until i started at cagels. my left hand is also starting to hurt and swell a little. i just want to know if im going to have to live with this forever or if there is something that could be done and if there is something else going on. im also worried at the fact that no tests were done or anything, i did have exrays done but those came back normal. like i said before i have a bump on my right hand where the wrist connects with the hand and it never goes away, its not swolen its a bump, some say its chemicals. so can you help me.

See another MD
I've had tendonitis for the last 11 years and it was due to keyboarding. Pain from Hand to shoulder. I'm not sure where you live but if you got do an online search: Repetitive Stress Injury- you should find a link to MD's who specialize in Upper Extremity issues. If by chance you live in GA, then there's a great doc in Athens, GA who at the Athens Ortho Group who should be able to help. Also contact the American Association for Orthopedics and see if they can help. Best of luck

Repetitive stress injuries can come from many causes. Other factors should also be considered as contributing to stress in all cases. Being overweight or pregnant or having high stress levels in general can certainly take a toll on certain joints. Once you have been diagnosed with repetitive stress injury, all of these factors must be taken into consideration before the most effective course of treatment can be prescribed by your doctor.
