Q: Possible symptoms of a contracted sexually transmitted disease
asked by: DoctorQuestion on June 19th, 2009
Hello, I know that this might sound silly but it is something i have been a little worried about.
I was in a club waiting for a toilet to be free. It was ptrettyobvious that the guy inside the toilet I was waiting for was masturbating. When at the end I ve managed to use that toilet of course I have to touch the handle and the flash and unfortunately I could not wash my hands becuase no water was coming out of the sink. Straight after(1-2 minutes) I started biting my nail realising only a few minutes after how unhygienic that was.
I am now worried that I could have some sperm traces from that guy on my hands ( who obviously touched the same handle with his dirty hands) and contract soemthing through my mouth which has always little ulcers. Should i worry about? that guy did not look very healthy either.
Thanks in advance for you support.

According to the information you provided (possible contact with traces of sperm when biting nails while having ulcers in mouth), it is possible that you might have been infected with a sexually transmitted disease. Certain of the sexually transmitted diseases are manifested with fever, fatigue when spread to the blood.

You might want to visit your family doctor or a urologist to check for a standard set of sexually transmitted diseases. Regular blood tests might be needed to detect if any infection at all has been transmitted.

No data was given about how many days passed from the possible transmission. Please note that during the incubation period no symptoms can be found, while the transmission has already occurred. Thus the doctor might be unable to detect any sexually transmitted disease.

However, this does not mean that you have to wait until the symptoms are manifested. In certain diseases that are not curable (such as AIDS, for example), post-exposure prophylaxis is recommended to try to prevent the disease from developing in the first place.
