I sat into my car one day a month ago and suddenly my back froze up and i couldn't move it at all, or else i'd feel intense pain almost everywhere in my back. the best way for me to describe it is it is like a charlie horse in my back. and after a few days it goes away, but i still can't turn to my sides. and if i try to go shoot around some basketball it freezes up again. very painful. please help.

You need to be evaluated by a spine specialist. Either an orthopedic surgeon that specializes in spines or a neurosurgeon that specializes in spines only.

No, you need to see the spine specialist first. The spine specialist will order the MRI if he/she feels it is needed.

The spine surgeon will order the type and area of MRI that is needed, and all the details that will be needed, including the use of a contrast dye if that will be needed.

If you go with the chiro order for the MRI and it is not what should be done, you've wasted your time, ins money and the ins may not be willing to pay for another MRI.

Best to not use a chiro, in my opinion. they have a tendency to not be of much help, but can sure make spine problems worse.

Good luck

I wish i had read your advice beforehand. I made the exact same mistake you spoke of. I ended up using the thoratic back MRI that my chiropractor gave me a script for. I figured it would only help speed the process when I go to a spinal specialist. But the MRI came back showing that theres nothing wrong. Now i'm just angry I did that because I think I need MRIs of my spine specifically to show that I have a curvature at the top hunching over, because I've always had bad posture. Now my fam. doctor has prescribed a muscle relaxer which I will try out. and if it doesn't work I will go to a spinal specialist. It is very frustrating because I know for a fact I have problems with my back, but who knows maybe this muscle relaxer may do the trick, and if it does I don't want to take it long term.
