Hi my name is matt. I am 19 years old. I think I may have some kind of weird nasal condition. My symptoms include nasaliy voice, constant nasal congestion, the mucus in my nose dries out in minutes making it impossible to just blow out, and frequent chest congestion (mucus in the back of my throat). I have been living with this all of my life and I am sick of it. I already had a cat scan doen on ym nose but the doctors said there was nothing wrong, but I know that can't be true. Please help! It is greatly appreicated.

Have you been to an Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist? Is it possible that it's allergies that is causing the chest congestion? It may not be a structural problem. Have you tried over-the-counter or prescription allergy medication? That may help control your symptoms.

It is also possible that the nasal sound is just the way your voice is. You can practice changing it to how you want it to sound. I looked up "nasal voice fix" online and it gave pages for how to make your voice sound less nasally. For example: open your mouth more when you speak, so the sound doesn't push up into your nasal cavity as much. Move your jaw freely, as well. Give it a try and look for other tips and see if they help. It may take practice.

Hope that helps.

I agree with Lydia32 in that you need to visit an ENT specialist (or allergist) first. The doctor whom you visited, is he an ENT doctor? When I used to visit general physicians, they never took my sinus problem seriously enough even though I knew how awful it was. So ENT first.

The symptoms that you describe could possibly be of that of a sinus problem or any of the upper or lower respiratory tract disorder.

As far as rare nasal condition is concerned, yes that is possible. My ENT doctor told me sometimes even a CT Scan image can miss (EXTREMELY RARE) an infection in the sphenoid sinus. Tell your ENT doctor to perform a nasal endoscopy and be sure you don't have a sinus infection. Nasal voice is also a symptom of sinusitis.

Hope that helps!

Hey Matt! youve lived with this all your life i guess you know something about you then huh! Ok i've lived with this for awhile & found the following to help me clear the congestion, you need to hydrate better, as a rule we need for every 20-25kg of body weight(40-50 pounds)1 litre of water per day. The other thing is we also need minerals in our bodies for the correct function of our organs & for our thyroid to make the hormones & triggers that allow our bodies to function correctly, the thyroid is actively engaged in over 300 different functions, these minerals can be obtained generally through the use of unprocessed natural salts like sea salt or himalayan salt. The cells of our body are each suspended in fluid that has the saltiness of sea water(which explains why hospitals pump extra saline into us). The salt will help get rid of the congestion you will have to learn how to use it & if you reply via a private message i can help you with this. Also research "the 22 fundamentals of salt in the body" Another site you should visit for good education on the importance of mineral balance is: ithyroid.com , water cures is another.

Do you have other symptoms like asthma allergies?
this post applies to all, if i can be of assistance to any, you are welcome!

to reply to everyone I have been to an ENT at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and they took the CT Scan and found nothing structure-wise in my nose that could be causing this they told me I could go to an allergist but they weren't sure if that could be the problem. I don't think it could be because it's an everyday of my life kind of thing, not something that comes and goes, like allergies. I do relaize my voice could just be natural, and I have had a speech therapist when i was a kid, but no progress was made after several years.
I plan on making an appointment for another ENT (for adults) and see what they make of it, so I will mention those conditions and tests. As for the salt treatment, I will look into that and possibly try it, I just want to visit the ENT first. So thank you everyone for showing your concern and please reply soon. I will too if I meet with the other ENT.

just an update i went to my new physician and she told me to start taking Ocean saline nasal spray it helps with the dryness in my nose. I also just saw a new ENT and he said that i have swollen nasal passages which could definitely be restricting my breathing for my nose he found this when he was trying to put a camera up my nose to just check it out so he gave me a spray to help relieve the swelling so in a few weeks at my next appointment he can look up my nose with the camera easily because he wasnt able to get it all the way up there
