Hi there I am 29 years old, usually I never worry about being pregnant, I use condoms so there is no need for that. But last month we did have one night of unprotected sex. He did not ejaculate inside of me, but my period is late. I tested with a store bought pregnancy test, but it pretty much said negative. I have swollen breasts they are not sore, but seem to have gotten larger overnight, no cramping, a couple of weird things. I know this sounds strange but my fingernails have been growing pretty quickly which isn't normal for me, and they are pretty strong. I have never had nails this nice, someone told me that could be a sign of pregnancy. Should I wait the month out before getting a blood test from the doctor?

Hi,
Welcome to the ehealthforum and I am glad to help you out. Your concern is regarding the status of your pregnancy. If you are trying for pregnancy and having unprotected intercourse, then chances of pregnancy are there but it should have shown by now on urine for pregnancy test. I would suggest you to talk to your GP regarding your concerns and get a serum HCG test or preferably an ultrasound done to confirm the diagnosis. Not only an ultrasound will clear the status of pregnancy but it will also rule out other important causes of delayed periods. My sincere advice is to consult a gynecologist.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
