Menopause Answer A4954

Given the data you provided (your age of 39; regular menstrual cycle, but without given duration in days; date and duration of LMP-last menstrual period; BMI-body mass index 24.8; near upper normal limit which is 24.9) it seems likely that you might not be in the beginning stages of menopause.

But, even more precisely, since premenopausal blood tests were already made, just post them and an explanation by a licenced MD (family doctor) will gladly be provided. If you have a scanner access, it would be even better if you scan the papers and send them in original as an attachment. If not, just write the results (make sure they are correctly written) and the answer will be provided anyway.

Moreover, for a correct explanation of the premenopausal blood tests, a precise usual length of your menstrual cycle might be needed. Duration of menstrual period is the duration of menstrual bleeding in days. Whereas, length of menstrual cycle is counted from the day of the onset of one menstrual bleeding (considered as the day of beginning of the cycle) until the day before the onset of the next menstrual bleeding (considered as the ending day of that cycle). The cycle is considered to be of normal length from 21 to 35 days. A cycle under 21 days is called polymenorrhea, whereas over 35 days-oligomenorrhea. If the menstrual period comes every 28 days, for example, plus/minus 1-2 days, the menstrual cycle is considered to be regular. Otherwise, the cycle is irregular. So, given the above, please provide data of correct regularity and usual length of your menstrual cycles. Could you please share the reason why these premenopausal blood tests were ordered and by whom?

As an addition, here are definitions:
Definite menopause is a condition of lack of menstrual bleedings for 1 year. Perimenopause is that period of signs, which tell every woman that menopause will eventually begin. And postmenopause is the period after 1 year of the onset of menopause. Onset of menopause before the age of 40 is considered as premature menopause (menopause praecox).
