Q: Possible MS Symptoms

Hi
I was diagnosed as having Transverse Myelitis 4 years ago at T2 level. I was in hospital for a week and given steroids via IV. I made a full recovery after a few months.
I have for the last 5 weeks been having similar symptoms such as tightness round my chest sides and chronic back pain. My left leg is also very numb & heavy and leaves me very off balance & difficlut to walk long distances. My arms are very weak and heavy especially my left hand. The pain in my back is now a burning pain & I am now getting regular headaches. I recently had another MRI on my upper spine which came back clear. I am now being sent for a brain scan. I am taking Gabapentin which I have been told to increase to 600mg.
If my brain scan comes back clear is it possible that it could be MS? and should I ask for a Lumbar Puncture? I do not really get on with my neurologist as he makes me feel I am making up these symptoms!
Thanks
Jo

If it comes back clear, yes there is a possibility it could be MS. LP is not necessary to diagnosis MS, it is mainly used to rule out other diseases; plus not everyone who has MS will have 'bands' in their spinal fluid.

Get a second opinion from another neurologist who specializes in MS.

Keep in mind that MS does not present itself the same way to all. Some will have lesions with no symptoms and other may have no lesions with symptoms...everyone is different.

I was dx'd with MS in 2000 and I have experienced all the symptoms that you mentioned before and after my dx..not all at the same time...
