Hi there,

For the last 2 months or so I have been having pains just under the right side of my rib cage. When it first started it ached, hurt when I would take a breath and especially when I would lean over. It went away after a day or so. Since then, 7 or 8 times I will go to move and I will have a HORRIBLE pain in the same spot. The pain lasts like 5-10 seconds. It is like an extreme "pulling" or "ripping". Then it goes away. Then yesterday, I had the aching day long again.
Last week I went to the hospital because I was very sick...it turned out to be a bacterial infection called C Dif. I am currently on antibiotics for the infection. They did bloodwork, an ultrasound & a CT scan while I was in the ER because they suspected probs with my gallbladder or even Chron's Disease (which I have been tested for 3-4 years ago). All the tests were inconclusive! I know that something is not right and I have an appointment with a GI doctor tomorrow but I was just looking for some advice/ personal experiences. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I feel strange coming on the internet to "self-diagnose" but I have found in the past that a lot of times things are missed with doctors and I want to take a pro-active approach and get this handled.
Please let me know if you have any advice.

Thanks so much,
Stephanie Very Happy

This is really wierd because C-Diff is usually casued by the breakdown of the good bacteria in you system. Ususally happens during the last term of taking an antibiotic of just after. It kinds just effeects your intestinal tract and you stool are loss and the oder is fanaminal. As far as I can tell, the ER doc was trying to rule out the right things. Glad it was only C-Diff.
And yes, your gallbladder is located right where you say your pain is. I know this reply is late so I am wondering how you make out.

Thanks for the reply... yeah, I just got home from the GI doc and I am SO FRUSTRATED! He barely listened to me, then proceeed to tell me that the severe pain I was having was either from birth control pills/paxil combo which are making my pancrease enlarged or most likely "just stomach acid"!!! I know I am not a doctor but I don't have a "sour stomach" nor do I think this could be it because the pain is always in the same exact spot; also, I don't know how "stomach acid" could make me so tender that it hurts to touch that area! He put me on Prevacid for a month and said if it doesn't stop he wants to d/c paxil (didn't seem like he cared that another doc put me on it for a reason).
I think I am going to get a second opinion.

sdsteph01,

Whether it is actually your gallbladder or not would depend on a few things: 1. Does your right-sided pain start 30mins-1hr after eating? 2. Does eating greasy foods make the pain worse? 3. Have you noticed any bowel changes such as constipation or diarrhea? 4. Does the pain wake you up at night? 5. Have you noticed any bloating, excessive gas, or indigestion? 6. nausea or vomiting?

hey i know how frustrated it is i've been like this since november all tests came back clear i went to see my gastro doctor and he said we need to take yr gallbladder out so i have to see a surgeon now as mish said it does depend on a few things does the pain worsen when you have eaten have you had nausea or vomiting does the pain go to yr back and up to yr shoulderblade do you have heartburn if so it does sound like it could be yr gallbladder you might not have all of these problems as people are different but yr doctor is ruling out other things first ask yr doctor if you can have have a ct scan and hida scan talk to him or her about it see what they say hope you get well soon
