I think the best way to get across my symptoms etc is through a timeline.

age 14 started periods, VERY heavy and painful, once every 6 weeks for 12 days - too embarassed to ask if it's normal.

age 17 started depoprovera injections, periods improved, still painful but lighter and less frequent

age 21 had implant put in, rare periods still painful, less heavy

age 22 periods become more frequent, lasting 12 days, very heavy and painful.

My allergies also tend to get worse around my period (im asthmatic) as well as bad stomach and back pain.

I've been to see a doctor today and have been given tranexamic acid to take and have been referred for an ultrasound.

Does this sound like endometriosis? If it is will they be able to tell from my scan?

thanks very much

It took me many years to get diagnosed with Endometriosis. I first got my period when I was 14. Around 17 years of age my period totally stopped for two years. I was also diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. How I knew something wasn't right was my periods were very heavy and very painful. I started having extreme abdominal pain all the time. I was constantly in and out of the emergency room and begging my doctors to find out what was wrong with me. No one ever took me serious.I was taking all kinds of medication for the pain, but nothing helped. Then I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. My doctor at the time said that was the reason for my pain, but I didn't believe it for one second. So I eventually found an awesome doctor. I described my symptoms which were extreme abdominal pain, nausea, painful bowel movements, blood in stool and painful intercourse. He put me on Progesterone cream. He actually makes a brand of this cream and gave me some since I couldn't afford it. My insurance wouldn't cover it. I was about to have surgery for my Endometriosis when I found him and he gave me the cream. It saved my life all my symptoms started to slowly go away. I hadn't felt relief of my symptoms for years. With my persistance I found a doctor who truely believed I had a severe case of Endometriosis so he finally diagnosed me with it. Sadly I don't have insurance now and haven't had the cream in a while. My symptoms have all come back and I am constantly in pain. You would know if it was Endometriosis cause you would be in severe pain all the time. Keep an eye on any symptoms you may feel and write them down. Talk to your doctor about it and if he thinks you are crazy do what I did and say goodbye. Move on to a doctor that is willing to believe that something is wrong. I wish you the best. Oh and by the way sometimes Endometriosis can't be picked up by a scan. I had every kind of test you could imagine done and they never found anything. That is I think the main reason doctors just shrugged me off. Sometimes you can have microscopic Endometriosis. So if your tests all come out clean don't believe that you are in the clear. Ask around for doctors that prescribe Progesterone cream. Try it and see how you feel. That was how I found out I had the Endometriosis was cause the cream worked. I can give you the name of my wonderful doctor, but it's in AZ.
