Q: Possible blocked tearduct?

My mom has had an uncontrollable tear problem since September 2008 now. It's been a long time now and it's still bad. Back in September, she went to a local doctor who said " It's just allergies", gave a random medicine and sent her off. It didn't help at all. We went again then they said they would book us with an expert in eyes. For February. My mom didn't like that we had to wait a few months to get an appointment so after going to about 6 or so doctors (that couldn't find anything wrong), she just randomly bought a medicine over-the-counter. The medicine, magically, helped alot.

So it's March now and my mom already went to the expert. They checked her eyes, put a needle down her tearduct and would book her for ANOTHER expert, in the summer.

The tears come out so bad she sits down to watch TV for an hour and uses like 5-6 completely sogged up tissues.

Is there any way to (temporarily) fix the problem? It's getting in the way of her job, the manager is pissed of my mom always having to wipe the tears off her face.

The tears roll down, sometimes she doesn't even notice

Symptoms : Nonstop tears, uncontrollable mucous (it comes out with the tears)

It's causing the skin below her eye to become all dry because of the saltyness and nonstop use of tissues make her skin sore.

Thanks in advance

leaking tear duct
I suffered from that for years. I was referred to a specialist who determined it wasn't the tear duct, but rather a tear gland above the fold of the eye. Interestingly, I just resumed wearing contacs, and they seem to help absorb the excess tears, or maybe put slight pressure toward that upper lid that has COMPLETELY resolved the problem. When I put glasses on for the evening, tearing resumes. It's worth a try in your Mom's case.
