Aloha folks,

I'm 34 y.o., 5'9", 168lbs, been having some anxiety issues for the past 2 months, and have had a host of weird symptoms: I've been having this slightly sore throat, feels inflammed, like i've got a cold or something, but with no fever. I also have had a really dry paranasal passageway that felt inflammed and raw. It feels like I also have something in the back of my throat, and sometimes it feels as if i'm wearing a necktie on too tight and feel like gagging. I've also had sharp stabbing pains in my head--not a headache, but just quick pains that resolve. It also feels like sometimes I have trapped gas that I can't burp out, but that seems to have gone away. I see my primary, and he thinks it could be stress related and acid reflux. I see an ENT, and he scopes me out and says my larynx passageway looks inflammed, and my paranasal passageway is inflammed too. He thinks it's acid reflux as well.

I'm not convinced.

I've never had acid reflux, and i'm not prone to heartburn, or anything like that. I've been in much more stressful situations, for longer periods, and have never had anything like this. I also don't have the tight constricting feelings in my chest, or heart attack like symptoms. None of that, actually. I'm just wondering, if this is truly acid reflux, and it's hitting me all the way up to my sinuses, wouldn't some of it be getting into my windpipe and causing me to have chest pains and tightening??? I have none of that.

I have been on Nexium for 2 weeks without any improvement in my sore throat symptoms.

Much thanks for all sincere, thoughtful replies.

WOW
This is the same issues I am having and what brings me to this site. However I have been tracking tends in mine for the past 3 months.

Mine showed up out of left field for a week... so i cut out all of the things I was doing on a daily basics. Oddly enough this meant no more yogurt and granola, chocolate (that was hard), Milk, soda pop and coffee... After I cut all this out I was better in 2 days.

It has come on and off and i never have really nailed it down if its Dairy related or not.

Trust me No coffee is a big help! I had star bucks today for the 1st time in months and I've been sick like you described the rest of the day. (trapped gas I can't get out and at the same time i try and force out a burp... this is NOT suggested. javascript:emoticon('Rolling Eyes')
Rolling Eyes ) and dry closing throat that is raw. Please reply I want to get to the bottom of this all. My father had underlying acid reflux for years and just found at 50, he is also allergic to dairy... Are they tied in our case? can allergies to dairy cause acid reflux?

So, it has been three months, and this is what I know so far:

My throat and paranasal cavity aren't inflammed anymore, and the acid reflux meds seemed to help settle my stomach a bit, but it hasn't done much for the gagging and the feeling that my throat is constricted. I still get that. Also, my paranasal cavity is dry as heck. It's not inflammed, but it has been feeling a bit raw and throbbing. Also, my appetite is somewhat non-existant.

I had an upper GI series done, and they don't think it's acid reflux, based on the barium swallow. Next step is to get a pH throat monitor, and possible upper scope done.

I think that I may have the beginnings of some kind of cancer. I'm also seeing another ENT in a week from now.

I have stopped drinking coffee, but I just drank a cup today and felt fine after. Last weekend, I had another episode of stomach and throat problems that kept me from eating dinner.

It could be allergies to milk. I know i'm slightly allergic to dairy, but i've been a heavy milk drinker before and never had these problems. I usually just get mild gas.
