Q: Possibility of tuberculosis
asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 3rd, 2009
4 years ago during a physical exam i was tested positive for asymptomatic tuberculosis. The last three days i've been having violent flu symptoms, a very violent cough at the fore front. There has been one instance of what seemed to be discolored or blood tinged sputum, i didn't get a good look before it slid down the drain. I've had a high fever the whole 3 days. I'm hoping it's just a bad flu, but i was wondering how long i should wait before seeing a doctor

Current medical status: flu-like symptoms, violent wet cough, fever, night sweats, headache

According to the symptoms you reported, you might be experiencing tuberculosis. Data about the body temperature would have been helpful. Because you already had a fever for 3 days, it is highly recommended to visit a doctor without delay. A physical examination and laboratory tests are necessary. A sputum culture with an antibiogram and chest X-ray might be needed for definite diagnosis.
