Q: Possibility of contact dermatitis
asked by: DoctorQuestion on December 3rd, 2008
the symptoms started about 4 months ago, a week after having sex with a "high risk" person and the condom breaking. i went to a std clinic and tested negative for the common std's. At 3 months i saw my primary care and did an HIV test which was negative. The first dermatologist prescribed a steroid and my primary care tried two other steroids with no improvement. The second dermatologist disregarded it as stress and said to try OTC anti itch lotions. I also have been having minor headaches and seem to be breaking out (acne) more on my face and back recently as well. I don't know if they are related or not but they seem to have started in the last few months. I am pretty sure it is not stress, but cannot get a diagnosis. Please let me know what it could be or what type of doctor/specialist would be the best be able to diagnose this.

Current medical status: itchyness in groin and rectum area. i have also noticed on my scrotum it looks a little red and there are small bumps where the hair follicles are. (ie elongated bumps at the base of the pubic hair on my scrotum)
Current medical treatment: tried OTC yeast and fungal(jock itch) med as well as serveral different steroids prescribed by my doctor.

According to your description you could be experiencing a kind of contact dermatitis combined with a bacterial or fungal infection. It doesn’t sound like any STD to me.

A dermatovenerologist should be the proper specialist-type you could consult about your problem.
