I have severe lower back stiffness and popping and cracking noises, if I turn sharply when driving or even when laying in bed if I reach to get something off my nightstand I hear what sounds like thousands of popping and cracking bones! My back is stiff and hurts and no relief from the popping. Anyone ever hear of this? I'm a 43 yr old female.

I do wake up out of sound sleep, tossing and turning, back popping, If I sit, stand or lay to long it causes great discomfort. My legs ache really bad, I was told yrs ago i have fibromyliga. As a child 9yrs old I was put in hospital for a week because of my legs aching and parents were told it was prob just growing pains. However, 43 still have same pains.I have noticed symptons tend to favor left side more than right.I do experince pain and stiffness on right side too, just seems to tend to left (arm, leg aches). have felt tingling in hand and arm,.If I sit with legs straight out in front of me (on stool) when I get up or move them I feel numbness an tingling and often pinching in lower left back. The back popping and cracking is new and getting worse I'd say over last 6mths.

Also, forgot to mention. You asked if I walk, walking use to be my main form of exercise, however i have a knot that has appeared on the inside of my left foot that feels like a hard bone sticking out, it is very painful.I have been doing streches with my foot in mornings to get out of bed. I'm thinking this knot may be due to my lower back pain favoring my left side.

Hallux Rigidus
This sounds like a sever case of Hallux Rigidus which can affect your lower back, hip, ankles and cause pain in your lower legs.Read this article, and go see a pediotrist ASAP.
I have the exact same symptoms and this is what caused my back pain. Once I had treatment I was 100% better.

sorry its been bothering you so long. you do need to get evaluated by a dr. if you do have fibro it may be aggravated now with some arthritis . do you have any physiatrists near you. they are drs of physical medicine. they are knowledgeable in the spine and can treat pain. check around to see if you can find one.....pete
