I have been diagnosed with polymyositis. My CK level was at 7000 when first diagnosed. I've had 5 IV-IGG treatments and about a month afterwards my CK count went down to 1000, while also taking 15 mg prednisone and 150 mg imuran. In just 3 weeks time, my CK count more than doubled to 2300, so my prednisone was raised to 30 mg and my imuran to 200 mg. I've been told I cannot have another round of IV-IGG until 3 months have passed from the first round. I have a couple questions: Is there anything that works better than the drugs I am on? Is 30 mg of prednisone a high dose? Should I be taking additional calcium because of the prednisone? I have gained about 20 pounds since taking these drugs (about 4 months), is there anything I can do about that - since I'm not supposed to be exercising because of muscle necrosis and regenerating (I had a muscle biopsy).
