Q: Polygamy

I know polygamy bothers alot of people, from the beginning of history, there have always been polygamous relationships.

In regards to the bible(christianity) polygamy is actually allowed, there is many passage in regards to the bible that talk about it and how it is okay, even in regards to the commandments.

Personally I disagree with it, I believe the new term for polygamous relationships nowadays is "Open relationships."

The problem with this is that some people feel by allowing other instances, that we are opening up the door to polygamy, but it really is nothing new, its been there since the beginning of time but we are taught it is wrong.

Like I said, I personally disagree with it, it isn't my thing, I am a one person woman but what about the people who it does benefit woman or man? There is a show on tv about this polygamous family who goes through their ups and downs and well I was watching it and it made bring this up, interesting show though.

I don't agree with polygamy, really. Instances of polygamy are mostly polygynous in nature rather than polyandrous, and I think it only happens because the women are brainwashed into believing it's the right thing to do. I'm hard pressed to find an instance of polyandry where the men are brainwashed.

I think that when polygamy (in the religious sense) happens, it's because of the pressure surmounted on the women and children by the men in the society since they're heavily patriarchal and have very stringent gender roles and guidelines.

I don't think polygamy could work in a contemporary sense, because of the growing equality between the sexes. If a man was able to marry more than one woman, those women could, ideally, in turn, marry more men... so then what would the relationship be between different husbands and their wives to the other husbands and wives of their husbands and/or wives..... It's too complicated to do or legalize. In my mind, if it were to be legalized or accepted, it would only be in the form of polygyny or polyandry just because beyond that, it gets too messy. In that instance, gender equality would be an issue (and, no modern woman in her right mind would enter in a polygynous relationship... at least I'm assuming.... or vice versa with a man).

I see alot of themes in polygamy that I personally disagree with, but so long as people are making informed choices, no coercion, of age, then I respect their choice as their choice. I like to stay out of others' bedrooms so long as they are consenting adults.

Yes I think the consent part is a huge ordeal, isn't there some cult that forces woman into it or even marrying their own fathers Confused

Surely We Live In The Real World
Of having choices other than being second best, third best, or worse.

I have been first and most beloved wife. I chose to believe that is the way for me.

Would I want my daughter or granddaughters to be in a relationship with a man with multiple wives who has the right to choose who is the lucky girl tonight? No Way.

My girls are intelligent and have chosen their own lives.

Not to knock anyone's religion, but I once had a piano teacher who handed me her Book of Morman. I touched the book and all I could see was untruth. But, that is me. I am Catholic. And, glad to be.

Let us look at the cults that have believed in polygamy and practice it in secret. Why do so many young girls when they reach puberty "need to find a husband, usually an old man" and they become pregnant, sometimes at the age of 12 or 13? Sickening.

Texas law efforcement agencies tried and failed with their over- jealousness. If they had just taken time, gone in there properly, maybe those kids could have had a chance at being removed from that kind of abusive behaviour.

Wonder what happened to those little girls who were pregnant. Maybe had their children by now. And, BTW, who reported all that to the authorities? Somebody who escaped and made it to the freeway?
