My Mother who is a patient of CIDP has developed Pneumonia while she was under treatment in the hospital. Now the doctors shifted her to ICU and she is under oxygen mask maintaing a 88-90 oxygen saturation. As she is taking steroids the high dose antibiotics are not working properly. Doctors told if the situation deteoriates further we need to go for Ventilation, listening to which I got horrified. Having said that my questions are:

1. What kind of Pneumonia it is?
2. Do we have any alternative and certain way of treating that?
3. How to avoid ventilation as from my experience I have seen rarely people are coming out of ventilator, as they developed dependency?
4. Suggest me some good readings/link about this kind of scenario

Hi I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum ....
And I can understand how difficult this time is for you..
I have pasted a link which explains different types of pneumonia.
However, to determine what is happening, ask the doctor that is treating her to explain in plain English to you what is happening, and what they are doing, keep on at them, however, I'm sure they know what they are doing.

Take care

Ginger
