I have recently stopped taking the NuvaRing last month and I have been wondering when my period will come (I had been on it for 2 years). My last cycle was December 13, 2008-December 18, 2008. I was supposed to put a new ring in on the 18th but I didn't (I was unable to get my new ring because the price shot through the rooof!) I have had some "safe" unprotected sex over the last month and have been waiting to get my period now since the 18th of January. The one thing that worries me is that it is January 25th. I have read a lot of these posts and it seems like its semi normal to miss a few weeks due to your body getting back into normal ovulation, but why do I have PMS symptoms like swollen breasts, bloating and back ache?

What do you mean "safe" unprotected sex? I didn't even know there was such a thing!

Ovulation can happen soon after you stop birth control or longer. It may take awhile for your cycle to regulate though.

The PMS symptoms you are getting could be from a small hormonal imbalance. Your body isn't used to having to regulate itself and may take awhile to get back into the groove.

Razz There obviously is no such thing as safe unprotected sex. I guess I should use the word "careful" instead, but clearly no one is perfect. Ultimately I think that i have nothing to worry about. I had been on BC for 2 years and feel like i may just be feeling the effects of my body starting to regulate itself again, i have heard it from multiple sources now and think it may be my situation exactly. I will take a pregnancy test just in case.

I'm sure its just that, I was teasing you about "safe" unprotected sex. Very Happy
However, it really is unreliable and has put you at risk for pregnancy. You could have started ovulating immediately after stopping birth control-- everyone is different.

I think a pregnancy test would be a good idea-- just in case.
