hi there, l have been diagnosed with pmdd a severe form of pmt and my doctor has struggled to find a solution to help me ...we have tried quite a lot of different anti depressant medications but they have not worked...l also have very bad side affects on these medications, so l've asked my doctor to try different medicaitons and avoid the anti depressant medication, however so far l've not come across anything thats working, of late l've even been to a naturopath who's tried different herbal medication but that doesnt seem to be working either...
every cycle l have l would say that l have maybe one "good" week out of the month where l dont want to bite peoples head off... approx a week to 10days prior to my period starting is when it all seems to start, l get very anxious and snap at people who are closest to me...l feel that its only getting worse as l get older ..l'm 43now. but the weirdest bit is as soon as my period starts on the first day all the symptoms go away until the next month...some months are worse than others, but this is ruining my life and all of my family's life too...
l've been to about 5 different doctors for advise and no one can help..everyone suggests anti depressants..and l dont want to go on them again... please help...
l've heard that a hystorectomy may help...what do you think?

You didn't mention, did you try different types of birth control pills? Did they do anything?

Pmdd is running/ruining my life too
I'm 25 and I've been suffering for years and it seems like it got worse when I miscarried last year. Now that I've figured out what it is, I'm having the same problem. I have severe side effects to most medications(including the pill) and truthfully hate to pump my body full of that stuff. I've been reading up on Bio Identical Hormones, it may be something to look into. When my mother was suffering from Peri Menopause it was the only thing that worked for her. There's a lot of great sites and it looks promising. This is so frustrating when you have one good wk and the rest of the month you have to fight to stay a float in so many aspects of your life. It's like your constantly trying to put a smile on your face and pretend like you don't feel like your dying inside. At least we know we're not alone! Good luck...

How many different types of birth control pills did you try? There are a lot of types and dosages that work differently for different people.

I tried Ortho-tricycline and it made my cramps unbearable (when they were mild before) and extended my period from 5 days to 9. I thought that bc pills weren't for me, but I tried a different type and they work great. Ask your doctor about that.

Good luck.

I am on Yaz right now, but have an appointment with the doctor tomorrow to switch after I saw a news story about the side-effects and lawsuits about it. Did your doctor take you off it or did you stop because of the side-effects?

When you do take other birth control pills, do you skip your period? Does that help reduce the symptoms of PMDD if you don't have a period for a month or two (or three?). Have you tried the ones where you only have a period four times a year? Seasonique or something like that? What about birth control pill alternatives, like Depo-Provera?

Also, keep an eye out for any FDA findings on Yaz. It may turn out that all of these accusations are unfounded or at least aren't as common as all the hype is leading us to believe. If it's something that worked for you, you should see if it's safe to go back to it at some point. Maybe they'll test it more or tweak the formula so it's safer.
