I have also posted this question in the birth-control forum-
My daughter has been treated for bi-polar disorder for a few years. She just turned 17, and during the last few months has been increasingy erratic in the 10 days or so before her period till about half way through it. We just saw my OBGYN who prescribed Yaz in the hopes it might help. (Of course with prior approval of her psychiatrist.) Based on her cycle, she shouldn't start it for nearly 3 weeks. I asked the OBGYN about starting it early, because during the last episode she was self-destructive. He said it probably wouldn't do any good and again told us to wait till the 1st Sunday of her next period. My daughter seemed to accept that advice till we were out of the office, but now keeps asking about starting it early, to ward off the violent mood swings. I told her I was afraid of sending her hormones on an even worse spiral by starting it at the wrong time in her cycle. I am basically looking for back-up, but am willing to be wrong. Does anyone know if Yaz is ever reccomended to be started early for psychiatric purposes?
