Q: plan b question

hello!
so my girlfriends doctors screwed up her BC by ordering the wrong type so she has not been on BC for about a week and a few nights ago we had sex and the condom broke. I pulled out in time but we were still worried so she took plan b and it says its effective up to 5 days but ive read if it isnt taken within the first 24 hrs then it is only 72% effective. she took plan b around 50 hrs after sex so is it still really effective or has the effectiveness decreased a lot?

i thought that stuff only worked if the girl was already on it? lol another thing ben has no clue about with girls *shuts up*

plan b isnt like taking BC, its something a girl can take if a condom broke or the guy finished inside and reduces the chance of pregnancy. if it is taken within 3 days, so 72 hours, after unprotected sex it will decrease the chance that you will get pregnant by up to 89%.

It would be available up to 72 hours if it werent affective in that time period, plain and simple, however it all depends if taken correctly.

He obviously confused planB with the pill. And yes, planB and the pill are just about girls since they're the only ones who can take them. Birth control in general isn't, but just because he doesn't know what planB is doesn't mean he was trying to pin all the responsibility on the girl.

i think what Alpha meant when she said:

Is that boys have a form of birth control too condoms, because she didnt exactaly say taking the pill.
but yeah i think he got it mixed up with the pill too.

I don't think birth control is the girls responsibility. It's shared. It's not so easy as the pill for girls and condoms for guys, all guys and girls should carry condoms and girls should take the pill if they want.

My question was simply because my understanding of planb is that it's the morning after pill, which I thought was only effective IF that girl had been on the pill and therefore already built up some chemical. I don't know really anything about it XD. I'm a guy in a relationship with another guy(who lives on the other side of the world). The pill really isn't an issue.

I understand as well that different countries have different things. I don't think the "planb" pill is even available here , I know for sure that the abortion pill isn't.

Anyway yeah, please don't turn anything I say into a guys vs girls thing. I believe everything to do with pregnancy is equal. birth control, responsibility, choice to keep or abort should all have an equal imput from both parties.

Well abortion is illegal in Australia unless it can be proven that having a baby will sereverly damanage the mothers or the babys physical or mental health if the birth goes ahead. So I assume they don't want to make something illegal a matter of buying it over the counter for $20.

i dont think he was implying that it was Ingi.
just stating that abortions and abortion PILLS are illegal unless proven it will damage the mother or babys physical and mental health.

It PREVENTS OVULATION. Which means the egg doesn't get into the mix, so the sperm has nothing to fertilize.

Plan B may be called something different in Australia. It is a massive dose of hormones usually taken in 2 pills. If taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex, it can prevent pregnancy. It doens't always work and shouldn't be relied on as birth control - although you may read that plenty of people use it as such.

Well then why would it be banned?

Is the birth control pill allowed in Australia?

Plan B is allowed in Australia, and Ingi is correct, it is called something different:

Postinor-2 and Levonelle-2 (progestin-only EC) became available in 2002. In 2004, Postinor-2 became available without prescription.
