hi, i searched for the answer to this question but i cant find it anywhere even on the Plan B website.
my boyfriend and i had unprotected sex (but he pulled out before he got close to ejaculation) i understand it is unknown if "pre-cum" can get u pregnant, but im nervous just the same. this was two days by the hour ago, i took plan B today.(both pills) later on today, being stupid, in the heat of the moment we did the same thing a few hours later. should i take another dose (two pills) now, or is the one i took earlier still in affect.

only well educated, or from experience, answers please.

Do not take another dose, the first one is still in effect.

The way it works is by delaying ovulation, so the egg is not available to become fertilized.

Don't take anymore chances, however, because ovulation isn't delayed for long, and sperm can live up to 5 days (or 7 depending upon which studies you read) in your body, just waiting around for the egg to show up.

hi thank you for your reply.
i actually just called the plan b question line and talked with a lady. i explained the whole thing and she told me that it only works for intercourse experienced BEFORe u take the pills.

i also asked her some questions about if she could give me a rough idea when my period should show up, because i am also on Otho tri-lo. and i started those pills about a week after my last period (so i didnt do the sunday start thing or 1st/last day of period thing) and i know plan b would make my period a week early and takeing the ortho like that could make it late. and if my period was early i would have gotten it today or yesterday because its due in the next 3-4 days.
obviously i want my period to show up but i just have no clue when it will. anyone have any experiences like this?

so im thinking about taking the other plan b box now, but i just dont know how much my period will be messed up. birth control pills have never really messed me up while taking them (nausia, cramping ect...) so im not to worried about that.
so i was thinkin about waiting two weeks after my period was supposed to show up, and if i dont have it by then.... im taking a test. two weeks only because my period is normally irregular on/off bc pills, and with all these hormones, god knows how weird it will be. i am so stupid im never doing this again Embarassed

OK, hold on. You are ON birth control and still felt the need to take Plan B? That was unnecessary and you have given yourself a massive dose of hormones in addition to the birth control hormones you are taking.

I'd like to know why that lady said it is only effective for the sex you had BEFORE you take the pills. Plan B delays ovulation so sex the day you took to the Plan B would be protected too (but you aren't ovulating because you are on birth control pills!).

If you are concerned about the effectiveness of birth control, use condoms when you have sex.

I believe there are instructions on the box that say you should not take multiple doses of Plan B within a certain time frame.

Get condoms!

i have condoms. i can hardly feel anything thru them, but after this whole thing trust me it will be condoms and birth control.

yes i am on birth control, but they tell u when u are starting up a first pack of birth control pills for the first time, that for the first 2-3 weeks of that pack u should use a back up method because the hormones havent gotten settled or started completely doing their job yet. so thats why i got nervous. and took plan b.

idk why that lady said that also, it doesnt make complete sense to me. but just to be safe i took the second pack of plan b a few mins ago. i read all the info on the whole box b4 i took the first one, and i dont think it said anything about too many doses in a period of time.

the box did say that the hormones in plan b are all hormones that your body aleady makes, so it isnt harmful atall to take. it wont even hurt a baby if u are already pregnant, it just wont stop the pregnancy.

It takes 1 week for birth control pills to start working. So you are not ovulating.

Be prepared for your cycle to be messed up for about 3 months, as with any use of Plan B.

You can overdose on hormones. There is an overdose warning on Plan B...

Not always. Some women miss their periods. Plan B is a heavy amount of hormones. Take a pregnancy test in 2 weeks, if it is negative, you are not pregnant. Many women have messed up periods for months after taking a single dose of Plan B. You have taken two. You may very well have side effects.

ok. so u think that two weeks after the day i am supposed to get my period is enough time to get an accurate result on a HPT?

No. Two weeks from the time you had the unprotected sex (that wasn't unprotected really because you are on birth control). So two weeks from the day you and your bf had the sex that caused you to take the Plan B.

If I were you and REALLY didnt want the pregnancy I would take the 2nd round!
The pill works diff ways... could delay ovulation, sperm-ova union etc. I took the pill 36hrs after unprotected intercours and now 4weeks later I am pregnant!!!!

that scares me.... and of course this is all my own doing... but i think that if plan b is supposed to work it should.... well... work.

if TWO doses of plan b doesnt work for me then i think plan b needs a new plan lol.
thank u for your reply

if you're on birth control you dont need to be flipping out...if you had been taking your pills for 7 days then you should be fine...than plus the 2 doses of plan B...i think you're pretty covered...next time you dont need plan B since you're on birth control..they work in the same way by preventing ovulation so theres no need for the plan B w/birth control

thank u very much for your replies guys.
u eased my mind a little, im just going to be nervous until my period shows up. i still have 2 days for it to be normal..... and then if the hormones affect it alot...
its just gona be rough waiting.

in the mean time, does anyone have any suggestions on how to get it to feel as good as when i didnt use a condom? im not going to do that again, pull out or not, its not worth the stress, but has anyone found out a combo they feel comfortable with that also feels just as good?

You need to use extra lube since you don't get the lubrication on the condoms anymore. You may need to reapply (something I never had to do with condoms), but its worth it.

While I completely understand SVG's motives, I really want you (ihaveaquestion) that you are not really in any danger of pregnancy. You never had unprotected sex to begin with, and 4 pills of plan b completely took out any minute possibility that you fell into the 1% group with chance of ovulating while on birth control.

There are different kinds of spermacides you could possibly use with your birth control piils or you can try VCF.

Both work well as a secondary for of birth control, but if you ever get a little off on your pills (miss one here and there), then make sure you use condoms for another week-- I just want to make sure you understand these are not primary forms of birth control and will always need to be pair with something.

thank u so much!! u made me feel better,
i dont think i need lube.. ill give anything a shot (lol thats how i got into this mess) but friction isnt an issue, i just cant feel him thru the rubber. i never could, i just didnt know what i was missing till this last episode. Rolling Eyes
idk whats wrong with me but the diff is phenomenal.
i was thinking spermacide.... im just not sure how much i trust jelly/creme that can just be worked out of the way of the sperm, how does it work?
what i mean by 'worked out of the way' is, while we r doing it, will it just get moved around and by the time he cums, will it be where it needs to be? (at the tip where my uterus entrance is instead of down on the sides) forgive me if im ignorant, i just wana get all my questions out(stupid or not) b4 i try something else so i know what to expect...
ok another stupid question... how do i clean up after without, getting the sperm moved around inside, ending up going where i dont want it to...
i kinda thought u werent supposed to douche when u use spermacide for that reason....

anyone have any experience with female condoms? do they feel better than male condoms?

also, if plan b works then what happened with SVG? thats freaky...

so what happens if while im taking my reg birth control.... i dont get my period when im supposed to be taking the sugar pills w/ no hormones (because i didnt do a sunday start or the normal starting times, i just sort of started... in the middle of my cycle) do i just stop taking them till my period is over and then start a new pack?(and if so, what constitutes the end of my period?)

lol i guess i wasnt lying when i made my account name huh?
sorry.
