Just started taking Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo. I found out I'll be going on a trip on the 8th of July - plenty of hiking and paintball. I don't really want to have my period during this time - so, do you think my doctor would find it alright if I started a new pack right after finishing my first month? I know I would have to take 42 pills, but I'd be fine with that to have a better vacation.

Plus, I've constantly been told that to ensure for birth control to work I have to take it at the same time everyday. Would it still work if I took it earlier than at the same time? For example, I usually take my pill in the morning with breakfast, but there are days that I like to sleep in what with no work, thus, I know I'll sleep past my typical wake up and breakfast time - so I'll take the pill before bed since I know I'll sleep in. I understand that I would then need to take the pill at night - thus I'd take it later afternoon the next day , then back to taking it in the morning the day after that when back to work.

I guess what I am asking is, would there be a risk of pregnancy if I took the pill earlier each time. rather than a spot on time. I know I'm not really "economizing" the hours of the day and would finish my pack a bit faster but I'd rather be early than late.

If you like to skip the expected period by using Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo you should start taking the 7 "third week"-pills (blue ones) from a new pack right after you take the last "active" pill (21st) from the previous pack. When you finish these 7 pills you have 2 options:
1. either to make a 7 days pause and then start a new pack - if you like only to delay the period for 7 days, or
2. start a new pack right after them, without any pause - if you like to skip the period completely.
Taking pills in the same time each day is recommended but in case of Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo that is not absolutely necessary.
