Physical Therapy after Hip Replacement Posted: 05-05-08 18:57pm
I had hip replacement surgery 11 yrs ago
and did fine (at age 56). I'm now 68 and
had hip revision surgery last September.
It's now been over 7 mos. and after
repeated visits to my surgeon telling him
how my leg was so weak, he finally told me
to go for physical therapy.
When I left the hospital I was given
exercises to do, which I did, and went
about my household activities (after a
couple months), but always with some pain
which I thought would go away, but the
pain was not that bad, the worst thing was
the loss of strength in my leg. I also
have bad problems, so that complicates
things too. Well as I said earlier it's
been over 7 mos. now and I started
physical therapy last week. The therapist
said it's been so long, but it "may" help.
I really wish I had never gone in for the
revision surgery. I felt MUCH better
before I had it done, and although the
surgeon said it had to be done because
there was wear and it had shifted I felt
so much better before. I can't walk more
a block without having to sit down for a
couple minutes to rest. I was always very
active before this second surgery.
Does anyone out there have any knowledge
about physical therapy and would it help
me now after so much time has elapsed?
