I had hip replacement surgery 11 yrs ago and did fine (at age 56). I'm now 68 and had hip revision surgery last September. It's now been over 7 mos. and after repeated visits to my surgeon telling him how my leg was so weak, he finally told me to go for physical therapy.

When I left the hospital I was given exercises to do, which I did, and went about my household activities (after a couple months), but always with some pain which I thought would go away, but the pain was not that bad, the worst thing was the loss of strength in my leg. I also have bad problems, so that complicates things too. Well as I said earlier it's been over 7 mos. now and I started physical therapy last week. The therapist said it's been so long, but it "may" help.

I really wish I had never gone in for the revision surgery. I felt MUCH better before I had it done, and although the surgeon said it had to be done because there was wear and it had shifted I felt so much better before. I can't walk more a block without having to sit down for a couple minutes to rest. I was always very active before this second surgery.

Does anyone out there have any knowledge about physical therapy and would it help me now after so much time has elapsed?

Thanks for any replies.

physical therapy after hip replacement
Please let me know if you receive any information. I have had two hip surgeries 62007 and 11/2008.I am still on a walker with a leg two inches short. They tell me I start therapy in July but how can that help my muscles after 25 months?
Am I the only person on earth that can't get a surgeon to converse with me and answer my questions. Last month I asked what my prognosis was and he said " don't know" and my office visit was over. I went to a rehab office for an evaluation and they called my surgeon. He didn't want them to evaluate me but I said I wasn't leaving until I saw the therapist. That is when I found out about the plans for my agressive therapy. I have had three visis since my last surgery and they never told me the plan. They did get the big bucks from my (health) PLAN
