I was just wondering if we can talk alittle about phobia's. This is just as much for my own conern (I have three of them) as it is for anyone else.

I have been afraid of water since near drowning at age 16.
I have had frear of hights for years and it is really bad. I can't even hike anymore. Last time I hiked was back in 1995 and my husband and I with a friend were climbing in Montana. Well, we got to this small ridge overlooking a pretty good size rapid river and I froze. He could not even touch me to help me down. I stayed there like that for over a half out with my first real severe panic attack. So, I had to phobia's hitting me at once, Hights and water!
Lastly, about 4 years ago, I became stricken with aroaphobia (fear of leaving the house) afraid of germs. This I have overcome. But, the other two, NOT!

If i go to sleep and wake up and its pitch dark i wake up in a panic and i have to find the nearest light asap.

Dy, have you tried a tiny night light for your bedroom. What is good too is you can put a small night light outside your bedroom too and just leave the door open a tab. Don't feel bad Dy, I'll bet your not the only one out there. How have you coped with this thus far girl?

I have kept a night light on----lately in the places that i live there is a street light outside the window so its not too bad. I have to be able to see--otherwise its no fun. I cant sleep in the pitch dark either

OK Dy, I am just trying to find maybe some causes for what we have. Like mine with hights. I have never fallen from a roof or anything. But, the other to for me I feel are warrented.
How bout you. Do you remember anything as a child that might have really scared you. I mean really scare you? Monster under your bed or in the closet?

well i was gonna mention that my sisters used to tell demon stories all the time even though i asked them not to--and then they would go hide somewhere and scared the tar out of me. I was never too concerned with the closet or the bed. I just always know mom and dad were there to take care of it

The very definition of phobia tells you that this is not a rational fear. I fear heights and bridges. I was in a panic driving over a long bridge over a river. I was shaking as I drove. Totally irrational and nothing has ever happened to trigger the fear. As I get older my fears seem to get worse. Go figure. I have no idea what to do about them. I avoid bridges as much as possible and avoid anything that will trigger my panic with heights.

I am the same way. I avoid all three of mine, which includes yours above. I live where the longest suspension bridge is. "SunShine Skyway Bridge" Back in the 80's when the Exon Beldesse took out a whole span just make my phobia 100% worse. Have not crossed that bridge since. I am the same as you with hights. That is why I started this thread. I wanted to know for myself, how many of us here suffer from phobia's. I really hope more on the board will join in.

I'm EXACTLY THE SAME lol sunny I also fear spiders though. Not daddy long legs but I wouldn't want them crawling on me but other spiders. Even though i am a billion times bigger than them i manage to use half a tin of fly spray on them. Confused

Yes, this can be a really bad phobia. But, this one is one of the most accountable ones. Knowing the sometime leathel poison that these guys can give out is enough for anyone to fear. I do not like spiders. LOL. I also have used alot of spray in my day. You are not alone! Wink

How bout snakes? Anyone have a phobia with snakes?

I think i know where my fear of the dark comes from. I have always , even as a little child feared ghosts. i've always felt as though i could feel something near me. not necessarily bad but just something/someone. Prob my guides ect. I remember as a little girl bolting from one side of the house to another. i also remember doing the same as an adult, even with my father being in the house! With my fear of spiders, I do remember at the age of approx 8 waking up one day and seeing a massive hunsman right in my view and I scccrreeeeamed as loud as i could. maybe thats where the fear has come from. I used to fear d**th as a kid but I've had a reading done with a medium which has made me realise that there's life after we pass so i'm not scared of that anymore.. My mum too is afraid of heights carol, I'm not sure where that has come from.

There ya go harmony. You may leave your body but your sould passes on to another side. I also use to fear death. But, last Dec, being only 10min away from it and being put in a chemically induced coma for 10 days on the ventalater gave me a much deeper solom thought of death. It's not so bad. It is the pain of death we fear and not death itself.

I'm so sorry to hear you had to go through that Carol. I don't know why we have to take the tests we do on earth but I am sure there is a bigger purpose to it all. Do you believe in spirituality. Do you really believe in the afterlife if you don't mind me asking?

You know how they say don't ever run if you see a snake well, I reckon I just about would if I saw one in the wild or in my garden. I don't mind them if they are inclosed somewhere though. Wink Another thing i am scared of is my deep fryer lol I'm always so scared of it catching on fire that i literally do not use the thing. My partner only does.
