Ok, hopefully someone will be able to give me answers so I know what's going on with my body! About two weeks ago I got a urinary tract infection (ouch) after having had sex with my boyfriend. I've had one before so I stocked up on cranberry juice and uti pills- the whole 9 yards. That painful ordeal went on for about 2 days and then the clouds parted and the sun came through- it went away! But (yes the big but!) I got a yeast infection (or what I thought was one) and so I went to the store and bought vagistat (I've also had a yeast infection before) the burning and itching went away for about a day then returned. I got a precription (fluconazole) for the infection. The symptoms again disappeared for a few days but they started coming back!! So I went out and bought one of those at home yeast infection tests that measures your ph balance and mine was 4.5. 4.5 is a normal acidity level unless you have discharge or yeast infection symptoms, then its likely that you have a yeast infection. So immediately after I got one of the more expensive monistat yeast infection kits and a day later... yes you guessed it- it's back! I also got tested a month ago for chlamydia and ghonorrea and tested negative for both so it's definitely not an std, or at least not one of those two. I have an appt. with a gyn. tomorrow but I would still like to figure out what possibly went wrong!

Hey...
This may or may not be new to you but antibiotics such as fluconazole and monistat wipe out all of your good and bad bacteria in your digestive tract. Having done this it's easy for unfriendly bacteria to overpopulate causing a candida overgrowth.

It also sounds like your body is very acidic which also makes the perfect environment for candida to grow.

For this to go away permanently you need to change a few things in your current lifestyle. For me to properly explain would make for a long post.

It should further explain why your getting recurring yeast infections and more importantly show you what you need to do to permanently eliminate it.

Hope this helps.

Actually, Fluconazole and Monistat are not antibiotics, they are antifungals. They only work to inhibit the fungus by interfering with the cell membrane.

There are several steps to take to eliminate yeast infections permanently but the first and most important is diet. You will notice a big difference by

1: Eliminate or cut down on refined sugars and refined carbohydrates.
2: Don't eat foods that contain yeast or mold like mushrooms and other canned vegetables.
3: Stop consuming all dairy products.
4: Do eat foods with a lot of betacarotene in them.
