Q: Peripheral white flashes

Since I had heart surgery 8 weeks ago I have had white flashes around my eyes, as though they wrap around the back of my eyeball and I can only see the edges. If I blink, go from light to dark or vice versa, it is more noticeable. They are getting more regular, and don't seem to follow any particular pattern regarding when they appear. I am also getting headaches of increasing frequency. I do suffer from migraines, and get blind spots in my main field of vision at onset, but these white flashes do not appear to have any relation to my migraines. They do not occur around the same time, or result in migraines.
I am 24 years old, and a little worried. I have heard rumours that a pituitary tumour can cause similar symptoms in it's early stages. Please offer some advice...

Retinal Detachment/Macular degeneration
I am 16 years old and I have seen white flashes and my doctors said I had a retinal detachment. If you have a blind spot in the center of your vision you might have macular degeneration I also was diagnosed with that. All of this is very serious if you actually have it. When they told meI had macular degeneration they gave me some injections directly into my eye and it has improved but it did not clear it. My post is under vision disorders, maybe it will help you out. I am guessing that is what you have. Good luck and I hope everything works out for you.
