Everyone is different to when they ovulate. Some ovulate straight away, others 4-6 weeks later and others a few months later. It all depends on how quickly your body starts producing the hormones that the pill supressed.
The 'period' you mentioned, sounds more like a withdrawl bleed than an actual period.
If you are trying to conceive, then I would suggest you start taking Folic Acid as this is important for the baby's development espeically within the first trimester.
You could also try and get Ovulation Prediction Kits. They work similar to pregnancy tests. You urinate on them and if you are ovulating there is a specific hormones in your urine which the test picks up.
The more you try the harder it can become as couples feel more stressed about getting pregnant and it becomes more of a chore and more about baby making rather than something that a loving couple would do.
