Q: Period late and short

I am on the pill Logynon and have been for over 6 months. the last few months my period has been late (I start the sugar pill on the monday generally get my period on the tuesday and finish on the thursday, but i have been getting it on thursday and finishing on the thursday. but its a strange colour). I have been on about 6 different pills since I was 16 and this happened with two of the other pills. Could it be my body needing a change? Is it less likely to work because of this? What alternatives would you suggest to the pill?
