asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 1st, 2009
I am scheduled for a vaginal hysterectomy in 3 days and started my period today. Can I still have the surgery or will I have to reschedule?

The surgery is usually postponed, because the vaginal bleeding might cause difficulties during the surgery, since the surgeons need area without blood to work on. In addition, the detached lining of the uterus can contribute for infections to occur.
