Q: Period after stopping contraceptive pill ?

Hi there, I am 24 years old and I have stopped taking my contraceptive pill (microgynon 30), which I have been on constantly for almost 8 years, just over a week ago as I am getting married in June and myself and my partner would like to start a family so i wanted it out my system. I know everyone is different but i was just wondering roughly how long it will be before I get my first period ( I was regular before I started taking the pill)? Also are there any side effects when you stop taking it as i have felt a bit light headed and a little bit neauseus (similar to travel sickness). I have only had sex a few times since coming off my pill and we have been using condoms so i know im not pregnant, just wondered if these were side effects of stopping the pill? Thank you for your time. ejg123

Lightheadedness
Hi its really nice to read your script! I have just been searching on the internet for people coming off the pill and suffering with light-headeness! I came off it only saturday and have felt dizzy all day today......lets hope this is just a mild side affect and will soon settle down I hope ! tiger104

Hi all, just a quick message to say that I have not had anymore dizzyness or neausea. I think this may have been my body dealing with coming off the pill in the first month. I also got very tender breast in the first month which was unusual for myself. After stopping my pill I got my first "real" period 33 days later and then the second again 33 days later! I am so surprised how regular things have got back to normal after such a long time on the pill!

Hi everyone
I am 25 and have been on the pill for the past 9 years. My husband and i have decided the time is right to start trying for a baby so I'm planning on taking my last pill on Wednesday and go from there. We go on holiday in just less than 2 weeks and I'm anxious about coming on whilst away and any side effects. Does anyone know if you can come on straight away after being on due to not being on the pill anymore or is that unlikely?
Thanks in advance
Caz xx

hi there caz. I'm not too sure? i think everyone is different. I was on my pill for 8 years contnuous use then when I stopped I got my first period 33 days later. I have had 4 periods since then, all 33 day cycles so in my case i went back to being regular. I did get sore breasts and felt a bit dizzy but that soon went and was only in the first month after stopping the pill. x

Thanks for that ejg123 Smile
We are off to the Dominican Republic on holiday and I don't want anything to ruin it.
I spoke to the nurse who I get my pill off to say when I am stopping and what we have planned and she didn't mention anything about me bleeding when I came off it so I'm thinking I should be ok but I still have that niggle! xx

Hi, I was on the pill for 14yrs. then at 32 I started trying for my son 4yrs. old. Doc. told me it usually takes 2 months of a normal period when coming off the pill. Then u should start having a normal cycle. That way u can take a ovulation test and know your window. I had one Doc. tell me it could take up to a year to conceive because on pill for so long. But only took 4months conceiving my Son. 3 months w/my Daughter. Now trying for 3rd. child since June.

Good luck to u let me know how it goes. Prayer's are with u!
