My daughter is 12 years old, not sexually active and has not began menstruating yet. Approx 4 weeks ago she started c/o itching in her private area. I thought that it was due to sweat and irritation (she plays many sports and sometimes she doesn't get to take a shower until 9pm at night). So we made sure she was showering daily and letting the area dry. This seemed to help some, but then it seemed to really start bothering her again about 2 weeks ago so we treated her with monistat for a yeast infection both internally and externally. She did not have any foul smelling discharge or white noted. She c/o her perineum itching and an area on her left labia minoria, no open lesions, and only a few small raised bumps visible in the perineum area. She is still having these symptoms and it is now really bothering her. She has some pubic hair and her labias are becoming the darkened color, but I do not see any abnormalities besides a few raised (not reddened) bumps in her perineal area. She does have sensitive skin though and was wondering if maybe this is a skin irritation? Please help!!

Thank you.

It sounds like a yeast infection to me. Or she could have a few ingrown hairs, which can be both painful and itchy. The best thing to do is take her to her doctor, who can diagnose her with either a yeast infection, allergies, ingrown hairs, imbalance in hormones, etc.

I would think if it were a yeast infection there would be the discharge and the monostat would have taken care of it. I have boys so I dn't know about girls and peuberty too much (I guess I don't remember either..LOL) but maybe it's just part of that happening. My son did tell me often about his testicles being painful when he was going through peuberty. Maybe it's the same for girls.

I would still take her to the doctor though...just to be sure. Smile
