hi, im 42 i have had heavy periods for years and wanted to try levlen( ED)again, havent had it for a couple of years.it was ok last time i tried it.we are going away soon on holidays, and im sick of spending all my period rushing off to the loo every 20mins!! i took it for 8 days close to the start of my period,my cycle is usually 5 days, after 9 days bleeding i stopped taking it thinking it was mucking around with my hormones...had two days off the pill and on the 11th day of bleeding, went to a dr, who promptly told me off for doing this to my body!!gave me a stronger pill microgynan 50,told me it will help.two days later and the bleeding is still going:(
i asked the dr what would happen if i just waited for my body to settle down itself, and he said the bleeding would probably not stop!!i think thats bizarre!8 days of levlen can do this...that seems too odd to me.
could this be the start of perimenopause?

peri-menopause & heavy/light periods
Hi.
im almost 41yrs of age, for the past 18 months have been experiencing menopausal symptoms, the first 12 months i experienced, loosing lots of clots at the start of my period, with low stomach cramps, was having very heavy/heavy periods every 2wks sometimes every 3,had moments of flooding, seemed to have a couple of very heavy periods then next one would be light! most would last duration of 4-5 days sometimes 7, had permanetly sore/very tender breasts,Plus other symptoms that i cant remember now, have had 2 blood tests done which didnt give a definate result (had 2 raised levels and one borderline) each time, but was also told does depend on when in month test is done, and as i wasnt having regular periods was hard to judge. Oct o8 was last test i had, due another one soon, Aug, Sept, Oct, were normal periods:) roughly every 28 days with what i can remember, then i had 2 in November! & another end Dec,(in last 18months ive had 4 missed periods) i never know when im due on as i dont get any symptoms what so ever now, & last 3 have been extremely light but lasted a duration of 7or8-9 days, for past 8? months i have no desire to have sex, what so ever, which is causing few problems at home as you can imagine, but i dont know how to change it, as sometimes just the thought of it makes me feel sick! (i've been with husband 20yrs) have had quite a few low moments at times, been very tearful on/off, feelings of being usless, getting old,etc etc

Multi-level thoraco lumbar arthritis
please advise as to whether this could be affecting my periods - at 52 yrs old i would love to shake off periods - they are heavy - with clotts sometimes - i have had two fibroids removed back in 2004 and was advised that would see the periods come to an end !!!! i am still waiting. I get fed up with this as i always 'come on' when we go away or at other inconveinent times.
