When does penis growth start?

Puberty is the stage during which a person reaches full reproductive ability and develops the adult features of their gender.  Some boys start to experience enlargement of the scrotum and the testicles at around 9 years of age, followed closely by lengthening of the penis.  Most boys usually start puberty when they're around 10 or 12 years old.  It's the appearance of regular wet dreams that marks the official onset of puberty in males.  Sometime during puberty, a boy's penis starts to get bigger, usually within a year of testicle enlargement. Just like all other aspects of puberty, there isn't a set age at which this happens, but these changes eventually happen to everyone.

Some pre-teens can experience delayed sexual maturation which might require a doctor's help.  Such delays can be perfectly normal (sexual maturation may be a genetic trend that occurs later for you) but should be investigated.  The symptoms of delayed sexual maturation are lack of testicular enlargement by age 13½, lack of pubic hair by age 15, or a time lapse of more than 5 years from the start to the completion of genital enlargement.

When does penis growth end?

There's a wide range of normal penis sizes.  A penis grows in stages and will look differently according to the state of development.  But adult size and shape of the genitals is typically reached by ages 16 to 17 years.  Remember that not everyone will go through puberty at the same time, so changes in penis size might take place up until a man is 20 years old.

You may hear or read about treatments for lengthening or speedy growth of the penis, but no special exercises, supplements, or diets will speed up the development process or change penis size.  Nothing will permanently enlarge your penis except penile enlargement surgery which can be painful, expensive, risky, and can have nasty side effects. (The penis may be made thicker by surgically inserting fat from other areas of the body).

Most medical authorities agree that vacuum pumps and other gadgets that are advertised to lengthen the penis don't work.  And although penis pumps are medically legitimate, they're only recommended for men with problems with getting an erection. They won't enlarge your penis.  Simply put, penis size is something that cannot be changed without plastic surgery.

Your penis is not a muscle. This means that even if you lift weights with it, do penis aerobics, and stick to a high-protein diet, it isn't going to get any thicker or longer. The penis is made up of erectile tissue, which means that it is a spongy kind of material that fills up with blood during sexual arousal.
