Pelvic Pain ... please Help
Posted: 05-23-07 20:24pm

Hello,

My wife (25 years old) has been experiencing severe pelvic pain for the last 2 months right after the end of her period. These pains usually start either on the last day of her period or 1-2 days after the period and they generally last a whole week and then disappear.

The pain is at times debilitating. It is centered around her pelvis and vaginal regions, often starts out as a dull ache but then transforms into a severe shooting pain that she feels someone is shooting needles in her pelvis. This shooting pain also manifests itself as spasms which can sometime grip her for as long as 5-10 minutes.

The surprising thing is that except for this pain she does not feel anything. Her periods are normal, the amount of bleeding experienced by her is normal, there is no vaginal odor, there are no clots in her flow, she does not have any fever, she does not have any pain urinating.

We have run a CT scan and have had a pap smear, a urine sample analysis and a blood test done. All of these have turned out negative.

Our gynecologist does not think this pain is menstrual cramps related. We are currently trying to seek the opinion of a gastroenterologist and are also looking into taking birth control pills. But the pain remains undiagnosed.

Have any of you experienced a similar issue? Any help would be appreciated as we are at our wits end trying to figure this out.

Endometriosis is another affliction we are thinking of but the articles we have read suggest this is very difficult to diagnose and our gynecologist doesnt think it to be the cause of the pain.

I really appreciate your reading this and may all your afflictions be cured.

Thanks,

This has been an on going issue for me. I have been dealing with severe pain and am at my end. My old doctor told me I had endometriosis over the phone and put me on Lupron injections. That made everything worse. I have had a head ache daily and bleeding for about 2 weeks. I went to get a second opinion and her thought was that I need a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy done. I will be having this done on Friday. My hope is they are able to figure it out and relieve the pain. Maybe your wife should look into the same. At least can help with some questions.

Sorry for your wife...
I am wondering, is the pain gripping around both hips?
I have the same. I am having a partial hysterectomy. I have had four
children and have a prolpsed uterus and a cystocele and rectocele.
Fun, fun! My surgery is the 24th of this month..
I hope this helps ...and maybe this answers your questions.

I can get gripping pain like that and I have endometireous. I would get a second gynie opion and see if she could go for a laporoscopy to see what is wrong. Maybe her uterus has flipped some or tilted itself to far one way.
Does she get pain with intercouse or orgazium. I know you said the pain is stabing does she feel it on her pelvic floor. Something that helps me to ease the pain some is a very hot bath I crawl inch any way to gt to my hot bath and usually with ease it up enough for some relief,
I will be praying for your wife.

There are lots of different things your wife could be experiencing and luckily, she's young enough that chances are it's nothing fatal.

However, the next time she sees a doctor (which should be soon since the pain is so severe), she should ask for a transvaginal ultrasound if she hasn't had one. She may have had an abdominopelvic already, but a transvaginal ultrasound shows a lot more.

It's possible that she is making ovarian cysts that rupture or something of the sort, I have had that and the pain is very severe and generally does last around 5-10 minutes. The other pain she is experiencing could be general soreness. Another possibility is uterine fibroids.
