Q: Peeling skin on fingers

Basically the problem is with my hands. The skin at the end of my thumbs and some of my fingers get what I would describe as 'calaised' (spelling?) and then peel as the top layer of skin turns white and basically dies from what I can tell.
However I'm interested in what this may be as I'm the only one in my family to have this problem.

I've been prescribed creams before, but none have done anything.. (I've only visited a doctor once).

It seems more of a problem when I'm golfing.. as it seems like the areas of issue are at the points where I touch the golf club grib.. which makes me think it could be a problem with contacting a substance but I have no idea.

Any help or direction would be very much appreciated.
